Marriage by the Book defines marriage as God defines it. A proper understanding of God’s pattern for marriage is paramount to a successful marriage. Marriage is not defined as a contract or a commitment in the Bible, but it is a covenant. This covenant is an agreement to spend life together. It is sealed by God’s approval. Roles are played by the husband and the wife in God’s plan for marriage. The book explains these roles. Success is the result of playing these roles in marriage. The book covers three danger zones in marriage. If the marriage is to succeed, these danger zones must be managed correctly. These danger zones are communication, money, and sex. The Bible says, “God hates divorce.” However, he loves the divorcees. The book addresses divorce and remarriage according to what God says about it in the scripture. Finally, Marriage by the Book addresses how to find a mate. It lists seven deal breakers and seven game changers that will help young single Christian people as they search for a mate.

In this book, Katherine E. Southwood offers a new approach to interpreting Judges 21. Breaking away from traditional interpretations of kingship, feminism, or comparisons with Greek or Roman mythology, she explores the concepts of marriage, ethnicity, rape, and power as means of ethnic preservation and exclusion. She also exposes the many reasons why marriage by capture occurred during the post-exilic period. Judges 21 served as a warning against compromise - submission to superficial unity between the Israelites and the Benjaminites. Any such unity would result in drastic changes in the character, culture, and values of the ethnic group 'Israel'. The chapter encouraged post-exilic audiences to socially construct those categorised as 'Benjaminites' as foreigners who do not belong within the group, thereby silencing doubts about the merits of unity.

Too many people around the world suffer from heartbreaks, physical and emotional pain, confusion and disappointment or untimely death in some cases. The misuse of the marriage institution has brought misery instead of unconditional love, security, pleasure and fulfilment intended in the divine design. Is it possible for spouses to experience marital bliss and literally live happily ever after in today's world? Marriage As God Intended proclaims God's desire to bring peace in the troubled waters of marriage in our day with a rallying call: bring the Bible home to your marriage! By God's word marriage came into existence, and by His word alone will bachelors and spinsters enroll in the institution confidently and spouses experience lasting fulfilment. The satisfaction, ecstasy, and love we all crave for in marriage were programmed into our heads by the Originator of marriage with the expectation that His word will daily guide us into His presence-the fountain of all pleasure. So where do we start from in the journey to God's kind of marriage? Who is the ideal marriage partner, and how are they discovered? When does a relationship between a man and a woman qualify to be regarded as marriage? Many couples find themselves in marriages that are more of a curse than a blessing; how can one make such marriage work again? This book answers these questions and many more that will awaken even couples that rated their relationship very successful. David Lyall www.davidlyallphotography.com
