The memoir of Joel Bean is from the pen of Prof. Augustus T. Murray, of Stanford University, a member of the editorial board of Present Day Papers. Happily for the Society, it seldom happens that the names of so many leading Friends have to be recorded in our pages as was the case last year. In the year which has just closed fewer Friends in the front ranks of the Quaker Church have been called to a higher service, but there are some whose places it will be difficult to fill, and from whose life history many valuable lessons may be learnt.
