This collection consists of one unit history titled "The 65th Infantry Division in WW II: A Review of Battles," detailing the significant engagements of the United States Army 65th Infantry Division during World War II using first person accounts. The history covers only engagements for which both American and German/Austrian first person accounts are available. Included in the history are casualty statistics, a selection of unit rosters, unit journal extracts, maps, and annotated photographs.

Germany's fast-hitting Panzer divisions made history with their astonishing victories in the opening years of World War II, but the bulk of the Army marched into battle on foot, with their artillery and supplies following behind on horse-drawn limbers and carts. The 65th Division was typical of the front-line infantry divisions of the German Army. Raised for coastal duty in 1942, the Division went to Italy after the collapse of the Axis partnership. The 65th saw action throughout the Italian Campaign, from the soggy banks of the flooded Sangro River, to the trenches of the Anzio beachhead, to the final battles of the war in front of the Po River. First published in 1946, this is an account of 71st Infantry Division’s role in World War II, it was activated on July 15, 1943 at Camp Carson, Colorado. After some time training in the U.S. the division arrived in France in February 1945, entering the line at Ratswiller on 11th March 1945. Thereafter the 71st pushed the German forces back all the way back to the Siegfried Line, capturing Pirmasens 21st March and capturing Bayreuth after bitter opposition on 16th April. The Division had the distinction of having advanced the furthest east of all the U.S. Army units, by which time it had fought numerous bloody engagements and being involved in the liberation of a sub-concentration camp at Gunskirschen.
