American gynecologist and surgeon Charles B. Penrose wrote this work in an attempt to deliver the best teaching of modern gynecology, not hampered by old-fashioned theories or methods of treatment. He has recommended one treatment plan for each disease, hoping to avoid complicating things for the student or the physician who consults the book for practical advice. This is a well-structured work in which Penrose has covered all the necessary subjects related to women's health. He included topics such as common causes of diseases in women, methods of examination, diseases of external genitals, diseases of the vagina, diseases of the body of the uterus, diseases of the ovaries, menstrual disorders, and techniques used in gynecological surgeries, etc. He focused on presenting accurate, practical knowledge, leaving the general facts related to anatomy, physiology, and pathology that are easily discoverable in the textbooks on these subjects.
