The III International Symposium of Terminology, organized by the research group IULATERM, was held at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona from July 10 to 13, 2001. After the two first editions, devoted to Terminology and cultural models (1997) and to Terminology and cognition (1999), the three lectures of the l III Symposium are devoted to the analysis of sources of specialized knowledge and terminology. The first lecture, presented by Lita Lundquist (Copenhaguen Business School), is about the production of specialized knowledge. The second lecture, presented by Cristina Junyent (Observatori de la Comunicació Científica de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra), is about the problems of the transference of specialized knowledge. The third lecture, presented by Mercè Izquierdo (Departament de Didàctica de les Matemàtiques i de les Ciències Experimentals de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), analyzes the teaching of specialized knowledge. The volumen has a four tex from the a lecture of Professor Josep Bernabeu-Mestre (University of Alacant) in the III Escuela Internacional de Verano de Terminología, and is about the terminology problems in historical research.

En este volumen, que incluye las intervenciones de los profesores Jean-Claude Corbeil, Marcelo Diki-Kidiri y Luis Fernando Lara en el seminario de terminología de la I Escuela de Verano de Terminología organizada por el Instituto Universitario de Lingüística Aplicada de la Universidad Pompeu Fabra, se habla claramente de las falacias e inconsistencias de la uniformización, que se presenta como un estadio natural de comportamiento, ya que ni la visión del mundo, ni siquiera la del mundo especializado, no es uniforme, ni las situaciones sociopolíticas en las que se desarrolla el trabajo terminológico no son idénticas. This book is unique in that it provides the reader with the most up-to-date terminology used to describe the human nervous system (central and peripheral) and the related sensory organs, i.e., the Terminologia Neuroanatomica (TNA), the official terminology of the IFAA (International Federation of Associations of Anatomists). The book provides a succinct but detailed review of the neuroanatomical structures of the human body and will greatly benefit not only various specialists such as (neuro)anatomists, neurologists and neuroscientists, but also students taking neuroanatomy and neuroscience courses. The book offers a high yield, combined presentation of neuroanatomical illustrations and text and provides the reader a ‘one-stop source’ for studying the intricacies of the human nervous system and its sensory organs. It includes an alphabetical list of official English terms and synonyms with the official Latin terms and synonyms from the TNA. This volume brings together a selection of M. Teresa Cabré’s articles on terminology published after 1999 in journals of diverse nature and scope, many of which are difficult to access; articles in languages other than English are here provided in English translation. As a whole, these articles aim to represent the author’s groundbreaking work on terminology, both from a theoretical as from a methodological and applied point of view. Part I includes texts on three fundamental aspects of terminology as a field of knowledge: Firstly, general articles on the rethinking of proposals made by other authors and on the bases for the formulation of the Communicative Theory of Terminology (CTT).
