Excerpt from Tenth Annual Report of the Board of Education: Together With The, Tenth Annual Report of the Secretary of the Board There is, besides, a heartiness of feeling in the minds of the community, which, though it is not all that could be desired, augurs well for the future. A great point was gained when the public attention was effectually directed to this subject. An earnest consideration of its importance awakened, at once, an interest in it, excited a spirit of inquiry, provoked discus sion, elicited truth, and induced those who had differed in matters of mere form to unite, with a common zeal, in the accomplishment of a common object. The reports of the school committees of the various towns in the Commonwealth are a good index of the state of public feeling. A volume of Abstracts, for the year 1845 - 6, prepared with great care by the Secretary of the Board, has just been published. To an attentive examination of the work, the attention of the Legislature is respectfully invited. As a record of the opinions of those, who, from time to time, are supposed to be best acquainted with our system of education.
