This volume aims to critically engage with constructs and experiences of disabled sexualities through Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. In doing so, it is hoped that the questions raised, relfections, analyses and arguments will provide readers with a catalyst through which to (re)think disabled sexualities from the perspective of the Global South. What makes this edited volume unique is besides chapters from emerging academics and disability activists who either live or work in the Global South, it also includes personal contributions from disabled people across the Global South. This volume takes a broad perspective on disabled sexualities addressing such areas as gender, race, culture, colonialism, body image, sexual pleasure, sexuality education, sexual access, sexual and reproductive health services, queer sexualities, and sexual rights and justice. The volume will be of interest to international and national organisations for people with disabilities, gender and sexuality researchers, health professionals, social workers, academics and students at all higher education and training institutions interested in disability, gender queer and sexuality studies.

Sexuality, Society and Pedagogy problematises some of the prevailing assumptions that frame this area of study. In doing so, it aims to make visible the challenges of teaching sexuality education in South African schools, while demonstrating its potential for reshaping our conceptions of the social and cultural representations thereof. Although the book is largely situated in experiences and perspectives within the South African context, it is hoped that the questions raised, reflections, analyses and arguments will contribute to thinking about sexuality education in diverse contexts, in particular more developing contexts.

It is widely recognized that the South African government's exemplary HIV/AIDS education policy is not making the behaviour-changing impact that it ought. Why is this? What is actually happening in the school classroom? In this book, Jean Baxen makes an important contribution towards understanding the complex interface between the HIV/AIDS education curriculum and what and how teachers are teaching in the classroom. Bringing Judith Butler's theory of performativity to bear in an analysis of the pedagogic practice of a number of teachers in the Western Cape and Mpumalanga, the author shows how teachers' personal conception of their role and identity as educators plays a vitally important role in filtering and shaping the classroom transmission of key information and attitudes.

This guide is designed to help teachers develop and implement HIV/AIDS education programs for students with special education needs. It presents specific suggestions for adapting curricula and teaching styles to meet the needs of individual students. The introduction discusses why students with special needs should receive HIV/AIDS education and what barriers to that education exist. It notes the elements necessary for quality HIV/AIDS education for students with special needs. The second component provides ideas for adapting instructions for students with special needs (e.g., determining the appropriate program, using a multisensory approach, and using task analysis). It includes adaptation strategies, a quick reference, and an HIV/AIDS checklist. The third component offers teaching activities with suggestions for adaptations to accommodate students with specific disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, mental retardation, emotional disturbance, and visual impairment). The fourth component offers a list of references and resources on HIV/AIDS education for students with special needs. (SM).
