Short essays on Parashat Hashavua. Talks on the Parasha recreates the warm, intimate atmosphere of a personal encounter with Rabbi Steinsaltz. While providing insights that are meaningful for the Jewish collective, it speaks to every individual as well. To Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz, the Torah contains within it many worlds. The themes, the language, the myriad ways in which to understand and interpret it ¿ all of these are worlds that both exist independently and are connected to one another, inextricably linked from within and from without. What emerges from the totality of the Torah¿s manifold shades of meaning is that the Torah is essentially ¿the book of the chronicles of man.¿ The Torah ¿ addressing, in particular, the Jewish people and the individual ¿ helps the reader understand not only what happened in the past and what ought to happen in the future, but also the meaning of his or her own life.

Believe in not just the ancient Word, but the Living Word. Reading a parasha--a weekly passage of scripture--will help you understand how God's words transcend time and speak to your life today down to exact details. Are you eager to hear God's prophetic voice through the scriptures? A parasha is a passage of scripture that is read every Sabbath day in every Jewish synagogue across the world according to the schedule provided for the year. By reading a weekly parasha, readers can know what is being pronounced prophetically on that very day. This book provides the full year of parasha readings--the complete scriptures from the Torah (the Pentateuch, of the first five books of the Bible)--the same passages read in synagogues according to Jewish tradition. Scriptures are provided in the Modern English Version (MEV) translation and David Morgan, one of the translators of the MEV, provides an introduction that will explain the significance of the parashas and how to get the most from reading them in this format.

Throughout his life, Rabbi Joseph Bronner has endeavoured to promote Jewish life and to inspire a love of Torah in Jewish people. After receiving semichah and moving to South Africa, he started teaching a small group of Bnei Akiva boys and this led, ultimately, to Rabbi Bronner co-founding the very first yeshivah in South Africa. Rabbi Bronner also served in a voluntary capacity as the rabbi of the Bnei Akiva-Mizrachi Synagogue in Yeoville, and the West Street Synagogue in Houghton, Johannesburg, where he delivered numerous divrei Torah on the topics of Jewish spirituality, religion and philosophy. After relocating to Los Angeles, Rabbi Bronner delivered a shiur at shalosh seudos at Kehillas Yavneh for nearly 30 years. This book is compiled from a selection of divrei Torah delivered by Rabbi Bronner over many years. The world changes, but the Torah does not, and these 10-minute talks present the essence of each parashah with particular reference to current events today, both globally and in Eretz Yisrael.
