Sulfonamides are the commonly used antibiotics, which are used in the combination with other antibiotics to enhance their effect. They are absorbed in the intestine and are widely distributed into the tissues. Sulfonamides inhibit the growth of bacteria by reverse inhibition and block the cycle of folic acid synthesis while they are effective against only those bacteria which produce folic acid intracellular. This book discusses about the synthesis of sulfonamides their characterization with modern instruments and their importance. The antibacterial activity which increases their importance has also been discussed. This book is divided into different chapters which enables the readers to understand this book easily. Chapter 1 covers the general introduction of sulfonamides and techniques used for characterization and chapter 2 explains the previous scientific work done on sulfonamides. Chapter 3 contains the experimental work while chapter 4 discusses the results obtained. Figures, tables and schemes are used to make it easier for readers.

"Several decades after the great discovery of antibiotics, scientists recognized the ability of bacteria and other microbes to resist antibiotics. Gram-nagative bacteria are able to produce and enzyme known as Beta-lactamases, which are destroying Beta-lactum antibiotics able to make them reisitant to antibiotics. A particular group of thiazole sulfonamides with extended ring structures attached to a sulfonamide group, inhibit Beta-lactamase. The present research synthesizes novel thiazole derivatives using multi-component microwave reactions and evaluates their activity against resistant microbial agents. Results described in this research discussed compound extraction, purification and characterization using various methods such as: liquid chromatography seperation (Biotage), thin layer chromatography, liquid extraction, rotary evaporation and Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis. Newly synthesized and purified compounds were evaluated in microbiological assays using the Kirby-Bauer protocol to assess bacterial growth inhibition." --From page i

Antimicrobial Resistance in Agriculture: Perspective, Policy and Mitigation is a valuable industrial resource that addresses complex, multi-factorial topics regarding farm, wild, companion animals, fish, and how the environment plays an important role in amplification and transmission of resistant bugs into the human food chain. Information of phenotypical and genotypical properties of each bacterial genus associated with antimicrobial resistance, transmission dynamics from different reservoirs (food animals, poultry, fishes) and control measures with alternative therapy, such as phytobiotics and nanomaterials are provided. Researchers, scientists and practitioners will find this an essential resource on the judicial use of antibiotics in animals and humans. Explores all the genera of livestock and fish originated pathogenic bacteria associated with antimicrobial resistance Presents cutting-edge research on epigenetics, nanotechnology and intervention technologies Discusses transmission dynamics of resistance gene pools from different reservoirs, including food animals, poultry, fishes and the environment
