Sustainability policies shape the ways that society and the economy interact with the environment, natural resources and ecosystems, and address issues such as water, energy and food security, and climate change. These policies are complex and are, at times, obscured by contestation, uncertainty and sometimes ignorance. Ultimately, sustainability problems are social problems and they need to be addressed through social and policy change. Michael Redclift is a very big name in this area of study and well known for his previous work and publications. The book deals with most of the main components of sustainable development: health, economic policy, land use, ethics and education. Covers both developed and developing countries (many books on sustainable development just cover developing.) Written by a multi-disciplinary team of contributors from an interdisciplinary department - geographers, economists, lawyers and sociologists. Topic of sustainability has enjoyed increasing popularity over the last 5 years or so and many of the already published volumes are now out of date.
