Stuff, Quality, Structure makes a case for identity metaphysics. It defends categorial monism, the view that there's only one fundamental metaphysical category, which Strawson calls 'stuff'. It argues for the ultimate metaphysical identity of things that other views hold to be irreducibly distinct. It rejects separatism, which posits such irreducible metaphysical differences. The notions of object, process, property, state, and event seem to signal fundamental ontological differences, but these differences are superficial, according to identity metaphysics. The same goes for energy/force/laws of nature/causation/power: according to identity metaphysics, these are different ways of conceptualizing the same phenomenon, the best name for which is simply 'the nature of stuff'. More particularly: identity metaphysics opposes (1) object-property separatism and (2) stuff-law separatism. It then denies that (1) and (2) themselves are fundamentally different issues. Strawson also endorses 'stuff monism', the view that there is only one kind of fundamental stuff, and favours 'thing monism', the view that there is only one fundamental entity in reality. He then considers the place of the notion of structure in an account of concrete reality. Structure considered just as such is an abstract, wholly logico-mathematically characterizable phenomenon. If a structure is concretely realized it must be realized by something that isn't itself just a matter of structure. It is arguable, nevertheless, that a thing's structural nature may--and perhaps must--completely fix its non-structural nature in any world, or at least in any world to which the notion of structure is generally applicable.

Panpsychism is the philosophical view that consciousness, mentality, or 'mindedness' in some form is fundamental in the universe. The idea has existed for centuries, but only recently has it had a serious resurgence. Galen Strawson has been on the front line of the battlefield on the topic of panpsychism since the 1990s. His paper on ‘realistic monism’, contained in this volume and originally published in 2006, is now considered something of a classic and a catalyst for panpsychism’s recent revival. This long overdue new edition of the book gives the original commentators, where they feel they have something more to add, an opportunity to update their thinking on the topic of panpsychism in general and Strawson’s realistic monism in particular. Seven new postscripts are included, which aim to enhance the original collection and push the discussion onwards. Eighteen years have passed since the first edition of this groundbreaking volume, and Strawson remains a distinctive and important voice in the field — the new edition is a must-read for all who are interested in consciousness studies.

Health Outcomes and Pharmaceutical Care addresses the challenges of and opportunities for pharmacists to become more involved in outcomes management by becoming proactive in evaluating the effectiveness of pharmaceutical care for patients. Because many pharmacy services have the potential to improve patient outcomes and limit total costs, outcomes research can be directed toward evaluating patient care that results from pharmacists’interventions and from new clinical programs. Especially useful as a text, this book prepares today's pharmacy student to become outcome-oriented and to provide more efficient and effective pharmaceutical care. Health Outcomes and Pharmaceutical Care shows you how outcomes management works--optimal patient utilization of health care resources is achieved, adverse outcomes are decreased, and costs are contained. Other important aspects of the outcomes system you'll examine in this book include: differences between outcomes research and traditional clinical research outcomes measurements patient-based assessments emerging state and national programs monitoring of therapeutic outcomes analysis of cost-effectiveness This book, a collection from the Proceedings of the 40th Annual Ohio Pharmaceutical Seminar, shows you the prominent role you can play in the assessment of the effects of pharmaceutical products on patient outcomes and total health care costs. In addition, you'll be motivated to become proactive in evaluating the quality and value of pharmaceutical care so that appropriately valued cognitive activities will be incorporated in the future scheme for health care provision.

To ensure food quality and safety food, professionals need a knowledge of food composition and characteristics. The analysis of food product is required for quality management throughout the developmental process including the raw materials and ingredients, but food analysis adds processing cost for food industry and consumes time for government agencies. Advances in Noninvasive Food Analysis explores the potential and recent advances in non-invasive food analysis techniques used to ensure food quality and safety. Such cost-reducing and time-saving non-destructive food analysis techniques covered include, Infrared, Raman Spectroscopy, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. The book also covers data processing and modelling. Features: Covers the advent of non-invasive, non-destructive methods of food analysis Presents such techniques as near and mid infrared, Raman Spectroscopy, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Describes the growing role of nanotechnology in non-invasive food analysis Includes image analysis and data processing and modelling required to sort out the data The prime for this book are food professionals working in industry, control authorities and research organizations that ensure food quality and safety as well as libraries of universities with substantial food science programs, food companies and food producers with research and development departments. This book documents a business analyst's experience with agile projects; Scrum in particular. It describes activities performed outside of the sprint cycle and identifies the benefits and quality that they bring to the implementation of a deliverable product. These activities are captured within a process named Quality With Agile, or QWAP for short. This book documents the QWAP process and how it is applied to Scrum, SAFe and Kanban.
