The standard codes of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for conducting engine and boiler trials are in frequent demand by engineers and have therefore been included as an appendix. Authorities have been freely consulted and extensive use made of current engineering literature, due acknowledgment being made by footnote or reference whenever possible. The matter included is representative of American practice and no effort has been made to include any other except in a few special cases.
