This book examines the legal, administrative, and regulatory barriers that are preventing women in Kenya from contributing fully to the Kenyan economy. Building on the 2004 FIAS Improving the Commercial Legal Framework and Removing Administrative and Regulatory Barriers to Investment report, this study looks at the bureaucratic barriers facing women in Kenya through a gender lens.

The report "documents how hardship brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the government’s failure to ensure access to health, economic, and social support services amid restrictions in place to stop the spread of the virus, contributed to an increase in incidences of sexual and other forms of violence against women and girls. Based on interviews with survivors of gender-based violence, guardians and relatives of child survivors of sexual violence, representatives of nongovernmental organizations, and government officials, the report exposes the challenges that survivors face in reporting abuse and seeking help from authorities and other service providers. It captures the Kenyan authorities' failure to take measures to help prevent sexual and gender-based violence; to properly investigate and prosecute cases; and to ensure survivors have access to timely medical treatment, psychosocial care, protection services, and financial assistance."--Page 4 of cover.
