Language disorders in children are one of the most frequent causes of difficulties in communication, social interaction, learning and academic achievement. It has been estimated that over 5% of children present with some kind of language disorder. This volume illustrates the state of the art in neurogenic language disorders in children. The most recent findings about acquired epileptiform aphasias (from Landau-Kleffner syndrome to autistic regression) are presented and discussed.Language disorders in children with early brain lesions are reviewed in relation to the side of the lesion and their epileptic correlates (e.g., paroxysmal abnormalities during NREM sleep). New clinical reports are presented and a large discussion is held on language disorders due to malformation or tumor lesions localized to the Posterior Fossa. On Neurogenic Communication Disorders: Original Short Stories and Case Studies is a unique book. It is a collection of short stories and case studies about persons with neurogenic communication disorders. The short stories are based on people I have known as friends, acquaintances, or patients. The characters in the short stories are based on one person or a composite of several individuals. I have placed these characters in interesting fictional situations which provide a vehicle for showing their mettle in dealing with their communication disorders and life challenges. The case studies are based on actual clinical cases and situations, but literary license has been taken to make them reader-friendly and interesting. This book of short stories and case studies is not a scholarly clinical treatise on neurogenic communication disorders, nor does it aspire to be one. While I believe it provides accurate information about neurogenic communication disorders, it is a work of fiction and simply a different vehicle for understanding these complex and often devastating medical conditions.

Acquired Neurogenic Communication Disorders: An Integrated Clinical Approach provides an overview of acquired neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders for undergraduate courses in communication sciences and disorders programs. Compared to other books on this subject, this text is organized by anatomical systems and locations, not by disorder.
