This Part of JT/T 1178 specifies the safety technical requirements and test methods, for the complete vehicle, braking system, safety protection, mechanical connection, pneumatic and electrical connection, load layout identification and securing points, alarms and reminders, of towing vehicles and trailers. This Part is applicable to category N2 and category N3 towing vehicles, category O3 and category O4 trailers, as well as their combinations.

This Standard specifies the general requirements for the swap trailer transport of road vehicle, and the relevant requirements for semi-trailer tractor, semi-trailer, articulated train with maximum allowable total mass of 49t below. This Standard is applicable to the manufacture and use of the swap trailer transport of road vehicle.

This part is applicable to goods vehicles of category N1, N2, N3. It is not applicable to towing vehicles and semi-trailers.
