Research without statistics is like water in the sand; the latter is necessary to reap the benefits of the former. This collection of articles is designed to bring together different approaches to applied statistics. The studies presented in this book are a tiny piece of what applied statistics means and how statistical methods find their usefulness in different fields of research from theoretical frames to practical applications such as genetics, computational chemistry, and experimental design. This book presents several applications of the statistics: · A new continuous distribution with five parameters—the modified beta Gompertz distribution; · A method to calculate the p-value associated with the Anderson–Darling statistic; · An approach of repeated measurement designs; · A validated model to predict statement mutations score; · A new family of structural descriptors, called the extending characteristic polynomial (EChP) family, used to express the link between the structure of a compound and its properties. This collection brings together authors from Europe and Asia with a specific contribution to the knowledge in regards to theoretical and applied statistics.

EACM is a comprehensive reference work covering the vast field of applied and computational mathematics. Applied mathematics itself accounts for at least 60 per cent of mathematics, and the emphasis on computation reflects the current and constantly growing importance of computational methods in all areas of applications. EACM emphasizes the strong links of applied mathematics with major areas of science, such as physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science, as well as specific fields like atmospheric ocean science. In addition, the mathematical input to modern engineering and technology form another core component of EACM.

The volume contains original research papers as the Proceedings of the International Conference on Advances in Mathematics and Computing, held at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Odisha, India, on 7-8 February, 2020. It focuses on new trends in applied analysis, computational mathematics and related areas. It also includes certain new models, image analysis technique, fluid flow problems, etc. as applications of mathematical analysis and computational mathematics. The volume should bring forward new and emerging topics of mathematics and computing having potential applications and uses in other areas of sciences. It can serve as a valuable resource for graduate students, researchers and educators interested in mathematical tools and techniques for solving various problems arising in science and engineering.

In this volume, I have collected several papers which were presented at the international conference called "Venice-2/Symposium on Applied and In dustrial Mathematics". Such a conference was held in Venice, Italy, between June 11 and 16,1998, and was intended as the follow-up of the very successful similar event (called "Venice-1/Symposium on Applied and Industrial Math ematics"), that was also organized in Venice in October 1989. The Venice-1 conference ended up with a Kluwer volume like this one. I am grateful to Kluwer for having accepted to publish the present volume, the aim of which is to update somehow the state-of-the-art in the field of Ap plied Mathematics as well as in that of the nowadays rather more developed area of Industrial Mathematics. The most of the invited (key-note) speakers contributed to this volume with a paper related to their talk. There are, in addition·, a few significant contributed papers, selected on the basis of their quality and relevance to the present-time research activities. The topics considered in the conference range from rather general sub jects in applied and numerical analysis, to more specialized subjects such as polymers and disordered media, granular flow, semiconductor mathematics, superconductors, elasticity, tomography and other inverse problems, financial modeling, photographic sciences, etc. The papers collected in this volume provide a selection of them. It is clear from the previous list that some attention has been paid to relatively new and emerging fields.

“Computational Mathematics, Algorithms, and Data Processing” of MDPI consists of articles on new mathematical tools and numerical methods for computational problems. Topics covered include: numerical stability, interpolation, approximation, complexity, numerical linear algebra, differential equations (ordinary, partial), optimization, integral equations, systems of nonlinear equations, compression or distillation, and active learning.
