Excerpt from Southwestern Monuments Monthly Reports: July to December, 1939 Headquarters that Tuzigoot Ruin was proclaimed a national monument by President Roosevelt on July 28. The serious drouth which has held the Southwest in its grip continued unabated except in a few small localit ies where showers relieved the situation somewhat. Navajo Indians are reported as conducting organized ceremonies for rain. Although travel is recorded as above normal on the major highways, visitor records are much lower than for July, 1938. Complaints regarding fees are still being received in considerable volume. Announcement has been received of the approval of a 000 camp for Arches National honumsnt and, as the month closed, action was underway for establishnent of a site.
