A good quote often has a play of words and is short and crisp. More important, it should be inspirational and rich in wisdom and one which you can draw upon as you move on in life. If you like quotes, you will also like the uplifting verses collected in this book. It is hoped that this collection will be a useful companion that you can turn to for solace, encouragement, a change of perspective, or just for a laugh, or to pick a quote or verse to share with someone. In Eric Wei’s first book, Lessons From Tales, he compiled short stories and jokes which we can learn something from. In this second book, he picked the best of the best quotes and verses savored from various sources. Eric loves quotes and verses which are rich in meaning. The sequel, More Wise Words To Ponder, is available

From the back of the book: I had some thoughts and a burden about the Bible, the Message, and Life. And so I began writing and sketching. And this is as far as I have gotten. It is not perfect, but it is good enough [for now]. I hope you can enjoy it. Some of it may be challenging. Allow yourself time to acclimatize... little by little. And may the Lord help us be more balanced. Together and as Individuals.

I have compiled this book as I believe in the power of the Word. Correctly used and interpreted, the Word is a strong ally in helping to affect feelings, attitudes, and actions you may take. I have worked on and collected this series of quotations over a long period of my working and personal life, but until now, I have only shared some of them with family, friends, and associates. They have been my inspiration when I needed moral support and mental understanding and guidance in moments of need. As you will appreciate, I cannot outline my life experiences and how all these quotations have affected me, but I will outline some of the major benefits and solutions. Some of these quotations have helped me resolve many personal and business situations in my life.

A novel contribution to the age-old debate about free will versus determinism. Do we consciously cause our actions, or do they happen to us? Philosophers, psychologists, neuroscientists, theologians, and lawyers have long debated the existence of free will versus determinism. In this book Daniel Wegner offers a novel understanding of the issue. Like actions, he argues, the feeling of conscious will is created by the mind and brain. Yet if psychological and neural mechanisms are responsible for all human behavior, how could we have conscious will? The feeling of conscious will, Wegner shows, helps us to appreciate and remember our authorship of the things our minds and bodies do. Yes, we feel that we consciously will our actions, Wegner says, but at the same time, our actions happen to us. Although conscious will is an illusion, it serves as a guide to understanding ourselves and to developing a sense of responsibility and morality. Approaching conscious will as a topic of psychological study, Wegner examines the issue from a variety of angles. He looks at illusions of the will—those cases where people feel that they are willing an act that they are not doing or, conversely, are not willing an act that they in fact are doing. He explores conscious will in hypnosis, Ouija board spelling, automatic writing, and facilitated communication, as well as in such phenomena as spirit possession, dissociative identity disorder, and trance channeling. The result is a book that sidesteps endless debates to focus, more fruitfully, on the impact on our lives of the illusion of conscious will.

From the best-selling author of The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and After Dark, a rich and revelatory memoir about writing and running, and the integral impact both have made on his life. In 1982, having sold his jazz bar to devote himself to writing, Haruki Murakami began running to keep fit. A year later, he’d completed a solo course from Athens to Marathon, and now, after dozens of such races, not to mention triathlons and a slew of critically acclaimed books, he reflects upon the influence the sport has had on his life and—even more important—on his writing. Equal parts training log, travelogue, and reminiscence, this revealing memoir covers his four-month preparation for the 2005 New York City Marathon and includes settings ranging from Tokyo’s Jingu Gaien gardens, where he once shared the course with an Olympian, to the Charles River in Boston among young women who outpace him. Through this marvellous lens of sport emerges a cornucopia of memories and insights: the eureka moment when he decided to become a writer, his greatest triumphs and disappointments, his passion for vintage LPs and the experience, after the age of fifty, of seeing his race times improve and then fall back. By turns funny and sobering, playful and philosophical, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running is both for fans of this masterful yet guardedly private writer and for the exploding population of athletes who find similar satisfaction in distance running.
