At the close of 1940, as this is written, there are nearly, 450 of these local governmental units in existence. They embrace an aggregate area of some acres; in them live about farm families. They are known as soil conservation districts. The growth of these districts - their spread across America - is one of the most remarkable developments in recent agricultural history, and one of the most significant.
