"Chimes of Mission Bells; an historical sketch of California and her missions" by Maria Antonia Field takes a look at California and the territory's Spanish roots. Field was a descendant of the Spaniards of Monterey, and thus, she felt very close to her heritage, including its religious aspects. In this book, she showcases the history of the state she called home and the ways in which the missions that were erected in its territory affected its evolution.

Early history of the state normal school or teachers' college. It was established in San Francisco in 1862. In 1871, the San Josâe normal school was established.

This appears to be a booklet put together in order to generate public interest in Frances Fairchild's proposed revision of Thomas J. Schoonover's The life and times of Gen. John A. Sutter. Some pages are reprints from the 1907 edition of Schoonover's work. Pages [23-29] contain testimonials about Frances Fairchild by noted Californians. A finished book does not seem to have been published.
