Indigenous methodologies have been silenced and obscured by the Western scientific means of knowledge production. In a challenge to this colonialist rejection of Indigenous knowledge, Anishinaabe re-searcher Kathleen Absolon describes how Indigenous re-searchers re-theorize and re-create methodologies. Indigenous knowledge resurgence is being informed by taking a second look at how re-search is grounded. Absolon consciously adds an emphasis on re with a hyphen as a process of recovery of Kaandossiwin and Indigenous re-search. Understanding Indigenous methodologies as guided by Indigenous paradigms, worldviews, principles, processes and contexts, Absolon argues that they are wholistic, relational, inter-relational and interdependent with Indigenous philosophies, beliefs and ways of life. In exploring the ways Indigenous re-searchers use Indigenous methodologies within mainstream academia, Kaandossiwin renders these methods visible and helps to guard other ways of knowing from colonial repression. This second edition features the author’s reflections on her decade of re-search and teaching experience since the last edition, celebrating the most common student questions, concerns, and revelations.

The two books in one volume in your hands give invaluable guidance for Seekers who have taken the courageous first steps along the Path of spiritual evolution. The authors base their knowledge on their personal spiritual experiences, the teachings of Ascended Masters from many traditions, and recent spiritual insights from Russia. The Laws of Life gives a basic spiritual roadmap for our journey. This book reveals the cosmic Laws that govern our life and explains their acting mechanisms. The Return of the Prodigal Son addresses our need for practical methods to reach our destinations along life's journey. Such methods can be applied by anyone, anywhere, to come in better touch with the wisdom that already exists within all of us - the Inner God. These include developing the abilities: to read Karmic Signals and to escape the spiritual prisons - "cocoons", to balance the collected Karma and to establish the channel of communication with the Higher Self, to become a pure "Spiritual Converter", to co-create with Spirit, to apply the opportunities the "Seasons of Life" present for spiritual growth - amongst many other fascinating and practical techniques.

This book represents empirical studies of some aspect of the phenomenon of variability in social insect behavior. It illustrates the range of ways colony members can differ from one another and interprets the variability in terms of the external environment, social context, or individual experience.

Attention has represented a core scienti?c topic in the design of AI-enabled systems in the last few decades. Today, in the ongoing debate, design, and c- putationalmodelingofarti?cialcognitivesystems, attentionhasgainedacentral position as a focus of research. For instance, attentional methods are considered in investigating the interfacing of sensory and cognitive information processing, for the organization of behaviors, and for the understanding of individual and social cognition in infant development. Whilevisualcognitionplaysacentralroleinhumanperception,?ndingsfrom neuroscience and experimental psychology have provided strong evidence about the perception–action nature of cognition. The embodied nature of senso- motor intelligence requires a continuous and focused interplay between the c- trolofmotoractivitiesandtheinterpretationoffeedbackfromperceptualmod- ities. Decision making about the selection of information from the incoming sensory stream – in tune with contextual processing on a current task and an agent’s global objectives – becomes a further challenging issue in attentional control. Attention must operate at interfaces between a bottom-up-driven world interpretationandtop-down-driveninformationselection,thusactingatthecore of arti?cial cognitive systems. These insights have already induced changes in AI-related disciplines, such as the design of behavior-based robot control and the computational modeling of animats. Today, the development of enabling technologiessuch as autonomous robotic systems, miniaturizedmobile–evenwearable–sensors, andambientintelligence systems involves the real-time analysis of enormous quantities of data. These data have to be processed in an intelligent way to provide “on time delivery” of the required relevant information. Knowledge has to be applied about what needs to be attended to, and when, and what to do in a meaningful sequence, in correspondence with visual feedback.

The ?eld of bioinformatics has two main objectives: the creation and main- nance of biological databases, and the discovery of knowledge from life sciences datainordertounravelthemysteriesofbiologicalfunction, leadingtonewdrugs andtherapiesforhumandisease. Life sciencesdatacomeinthe formofbiological sequences, structures, pathways, or literature. One major aspect of discovering biological knowledge is to search, predict, or model speci'c information in a given dataset in order to generate new interesting knowledge. Computer science methods such as evolutionary computation, machine learning, and data mining all have a great deal to o'er the ?eld of bioinformatics. The goal of the 8th - ropean Conference on Evolutionary Computation, Machine Learning, and Data Mining in Bioinformatics (EvoBIO 2010) was to bring together experts in these ?elds in order to discuss new and novel methods for tackling complex biological problems. The 8th EvoBIO conference was held in Istanbul, Turkey during April 7-9, 2010attheIstanbulTechnicalUniversity. EvoBIO2010washeldjointlywiththe 13th European Conference on Genetic Programming (EuroGP 2010), the 10th European Conference on Evolutionary Computation in Combinatorial Opti- sation (EvoCOP 2010), and the conference on the applications of evolutionary computation,EvoApplications. Collectively, the conferences areorganizedunder the name Evo* (www. evostar. org). EvoBIO, held annually as a workshop since 2003, became a conference in 2007 and it is now the premiere European event for those interested in the interface between evolutionary computation, machine learning, data mining, bioinformatics, and computational biology.
