Marked as a copy. Huntington, Governor of Connecticut, reports that Dr. Sumner, a surgeon's mate, lately returned home from the Western frontier on furlough. Recommends the appointment of Dr. Isaac Knight as surgeon's mate in Sumner's absence.

Huntington, Governor of Connecticut, transmits to Knox a copy of a letter he had previously erroneously sent to New York (Knox was at Boston). Asks for Knox's approval for Dr. Knight to fill in for Dr. Summer at his post in the Western frontier (refer to GLC02437.03959 for Huntington's earlier request).

Marked copy. Asks for Knox's help based on his intimate connection with Andrews's father (not named). His father does not want to abuse his friendship with Knox so is reluctant to ask. Andrews would like an appointment as Surgeon's mate and hopes Knox will forgive his effrontery in asking. Explains that the field of medicine is very crowded at present. Includes an excerpt from a letter from Samuel Danforth dated December 1789 which recommends him and certifies his studies in medical school.

Responds to news from Huntington that Congress has chosen Baltimore as a meeting place, but agrees with him that this may not be the final location. Notes that a Colonel Samuel Abbott is very ill. Also informs Huntington that his wife, Anne Huntington, is sick. Abbott died later that year. This was a retained copy of the letter docketed by Samuel Huntington.

Assumes that Ogden has returned from Philadelphia, where he and his wife Euphemia wished his brother Gouverneur a safe trip to Europe. Reports that his three youngest children have passed through the measles, and that two of his other children (Henry Jackson and Lucy) have a fever. Asks if Ogden, who operates the Delaware Works, has sent Samuel Shaw's iron to Boston. Asks how he should reply to a letter from James Webber, a London merchant, who wishes to collect a debt owed to him by Ogden. In a post script, comments on the sale of Colonel [Alexander] Hamilton's St. Lawrence lands at a low price to [Alexander] Macomb. Adds that he declined the same offer for his lands. Asks if Gouverneur might be able to sell the land for a better price while he is in England.

Reports that he seems to be recovering from a recent illness. Transmits a letter to Mrs. McNeill related to financial matters. Asks Jackson to wait on Mrs. [Mary] McNeill and take duplicate receipts for the said certificate. Asks Jackson to write to him about the convention and send all the publications from it, referring to the convention in Massachusetts to ratify the constitution.

Introduces Mr. Barclay, the bearer of this letter, noting that Barclay hopes to solicit an office in the new government. Asks Knox to make Barclay known to the Eastern Senators.
