The results recorded in these pages may therefore be accepted as accurate to the best of his knowledge and belief. In the same way he interviewed personally the different authorities whose opinions he has quoted. As most of this work, however, was of necessity done by the help of an interpreter, it is possible that errors, consequent on misunderstandings, may have crept in here and there, and for such errors, if any, he apologises in advance. Further, the fact that all money standards, temperatures, weights, measures, &c., required rendering into their English equivalents, which are not always easy to arrive at, opens a door to possible mistakes. Lastly, some names may occasionally have been misspelt, although he has done his best to avoid such blunders. One can also rightly claim that the value of the live stock in the course of 30 years has been increased by and to this must be added the increased value of farm buildings, dea stock, machines, etc., as well as the value of the something like dairies and 43 cooperative bacon factories that have been erected by agriculturists. This development dates from the period about 30 years ago, when the corn prices fell and the economical status of agriculture was less good, if not to say bad. The transition from the sale of corn to the producing of cattle is a very interesting period in the history of Danish agriculture. A visitor is likely to see what he goes prepared to see or what over-zealous friends want him to see. To guard against this danger, I took the proofs to well-informed Danes resident in this country for criticism. They kindly checked up the historical and social data. They verified the statistical statements from official manuals. They confirmed the interpretation of the cultural life of the people, of the essential democracy of the country, and of the industrial and social conditions that prevail. Denmark seems to me to be quite the most valuable political exhibit in the modern world. It should be studied by statesmen.
