The CISM-IFToMM RoManSy Symposia have played a dynamic role in the development of the theory and practice of robotics. The proceedings of the eleven symposia to date present a world view of the state of the art. The proceedings of this eleventh edition focus mainly on problems of mechanical engineering and control.

This book highlights the latest innovations and applications in robotics, as presented by leading international researchers and engineers at the ROMANSY 2022, the 24th CISM IFToMM Symposium on Theory and Practice of Robots and Manipulators, held in Udine, Italy, on July 4–7, 2022. The ROMANSY symposium is the first established conference that focuses on robotics theory and research, rather than industrial aspects. Bringing together researchers from a broad range of countries, the symposium is held bi-annually and plays a vital role in the development of the theory and practice of robotics, as well as the mechanical sciences. ROMANSY 2022 marks the 24th instalment in a series that began in 1973.

This proceedings volume contains papers that have been selected after review for oral presentation at ROMANSY 2018, the 22nd CISM-IFToMM Symposium on Theory and Practice of Robots and Manipulators. These papers cover advances on several aspects of the wide field of Robotics as concerning Theory and Practice of Robots and Manipulators. ROMANSY 2018 is the 22nd event in a series that started in 1973 as one of the first conference activities in the world on Robotics. The first event was held at CISM (International Centre for Mechanical Science) in Udine, Italy on 5-8 September 1973. It was also the first topic conference of IFToMM (International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science) and it was directed not only to the IFToMM community.

The papers in this volume provide a vision of the evolution of the robotics disciplines and indicate new directions in which these disciplines are foreseen to develop. Paper topics include, but are not limited to, novel robot design and robot modules/components, service, education, medical, space, welfare and rescue robots, humanoid robots, bio-robotics, multi-robot, embodied multi-agent systems, challenges in control, modeling, kinematical and dynamical analysis of robotic systems, innovations in sensor systems for robots and perception, and recent advances in robotics. In particular, many contributions on humanoid robots from leading Japanese researchers are included.

ROMANSY 2014 is the twentieth event in a series that started in 1973 as one of the first conference activities in the world on Robotics. The first event was held at CISM (International Centre for Mechanical Science) in Udine, Italy on 5-8 September 1973. It was also the first topic conference of IFToMM (International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science) and it was directed not only to the IFToMM community. Proceedings volumes of ROMANSY have been always published to be available, also after the symposium, to a large public of scholars and designers with the aim to give an overview of new advances and trends in the theory, design and practice of robots. This proceedings volume, like previous ones of the series, contains contributions with achievements covering many fields of Robotics as Theory and Practice of Robots and Manipulators that can be an inspiration for future developments.
