Based on the literature review, electrochemical precipitation and activated alumina adsorption were judged to be the most promising technologies for interim treatment of wastewater in SUMP 1727. This interim response action will consist of the treatment and disposal of wastewater from bld1727 sum to mitigate 1) Any future release of contaminated water and 2) The potential adverse affects associated with a release of contaminated water. In addition, this IRA will reduce the mobility, toxicity, and volume of contaminate water in the sump. This final decision document provides summaries of: 1. Alternatives considered 2. Significant events leading to the initiation of the IRA 3. The IRA project 4. The applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements, standards, criteria, or limitations (ARAR's) associated with the program. The preferred action is to pump and treat with existing activated alumina/granular activated carbon treatment system.

THIS FINAL REPORT IDENTIFIES POSSIBLE INTERIM RESPONSE ACTIONS (IRA'S) THAT MAY REDUCE THE FUTURE RELEASE OF CONTAMINATED WATER FROM SUMP 1727 IN THE NORTH PLANTS AREA THESE INCLUDE: (1) TREATMENT WITH EXISTING ANGAC TREATMENT SYSTEM; (2) EVAPORATION POND; (3) ELIMINATION OF KNOWN SOURCES AND TREATMENT WITH EXISTING AA/GAC TREATMENT SYSTEM; (4) DECOMMISSION SUMP AND ASSOCIATED LINES; (5) CONSTRUCTION OF NEW SUMP AND TREATMENT WITH AA/GAC; (6) RETROFIT EXISTING SUMP; (7) DIRECT DISCHARGE TO SURFACE WATERWAYS (NO ACTION). EACH IRA IS EVALUATED FOR: (1) EFFECTIVENESS IN REDUCING THE MOBILITY, TOXICITY, AND VOLUME OF CONTAMINATED WATER; (2) COSTS; (3) IMPLEMENTABILITY.
