The Richards-Woody Family Papers comprise correspondence, photographs, obituaries, legal documents, and a family history of the Richards-Woody family. The collection includes Civil War-era correspondence between King David Richards and his wife, Harriet Love Richards, describing several accounts of battles fought by the Confederate Army's 57th Virginia Infantry during the years 1862 and 1863.

Consists of correspondence, certificates, journals, genealogical notes, wills, military papers, and legal documents.

Woody Family

Correspondence, deeds, bills of sale, shipping invoices, wills, mortgages, accounts, receipts, notes, and other business and personal papers of the Richards family. Includes correspondence, shipping invoices, and other business papers of John M. Richards (b. 1834), merchant and owner of two schooners. Other persons represented include Richards's wife, Gertrude (Baldwin) Richards (b. 1834) and his father-in-law, Silas I. Baldwin (b. 1801) and merchants William Cowperthwaite and Archibald Blakeslee.

This collection consists of six letters written by Frank Woody's sister, Mary A. Branson of Augusta, GA., discussing family matter and the progress of post-Civil War reconstruction (1865-1870); Woody and Countryman family genalogical materials; manuscript entitled "A Sketch of the Early History of Western Montana," that focuses on the Jesuit missionaries, activities at Fort Owen, white relations with the Flathead Indians, and the creatiion and political development of Missoula County; Sarah Countryman's hand-written diary (1869) describing her trip from Philipsburg, MT to Salt Lake City, Utah; and letters and biographical materials on Countryman and Woody families including a letter to Frank Woody (1885) and a reminiscent letter (1918) by Sarah Woody, and photographs with annotations.
