Edward Taylor, 1642-1729 It is always a pleasure to look back to a notable and virtuous ancestry, and I have felt it a duty to have this little volume printed for the benefit of the descendants of Rev. Edward Taylor and Ruth Wyllys his wife, of Governor John Haynes and Mabel Harlakenden, of Governor Wyllys and his descendants, of Governor William Bradford of the Mayflower, and, through them, especially of the descendants of Rev. John Taylor and Elizabeth Terry his wife. I am led to do this from the fact that I have possession of many of the papers of the late Hon. Henry Wyllys Taylor, LL. Edward Taylor (1642?-1729) immigrated from England to become the minister of the Westfield Church in Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. He married twice. "In spite of recent studies, our view of Edward Taylor remains incomplete ... We know something of his reference for orthodoxy ... and we have, of course, much of his poetry." (p. xi).
