Provides the first release of information from the 2001 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA). The NHSDA has become the primary source of information on the use of illicit drugs, alcohol, & tobacco by the civilian, non-institutionalized population in the U.S. The NHSDA interviews approx. 70,000 people age 12 years or older, in every State, over a 12-month period. Because of the survey, it is possible to make relatively precise estimates of many variables of major interest. In addition to extensive questions about the use of substances, the 2001 version of the survey included questions on mental health status & treatment.
