Excerpt from The Cause and Prevention of Yellow Fever: Contained in the Report of the Sanitary Commission of New Orleans We cannot but hope that a second edition of this valuable report will be published, sufficiently extensive to afford every physician and every Board of Health in our large cities an opportunity of procuring a copy. We do not pretend to decide whether the opinions delivered in it or the principles established by it are legitimately derived, in a professional point of view; but there seems to be to us a great deal of important information, collected with much labor from a great variety of sources, which ought in some way or other to be spread before the public. Excerpt from Recent Researches Relating to the Etiology and Specific Treatment of Yellow Fever I say in my report: The mucous membrane of the stomach is always found to be more or less hyper emic; the congestion commonly is not general, but is confined to smaller or larger spots or districts, in which it is observed to proceed from one or more centers. From these centers it extends or radiates in a lesser degree, either gradually to be lost or to pass over to another congested district. It is owing to this peculiarity of the congestion that it presents no uniformity of °character, but is observed to spread irregularly over larger or smaller portions of the membrane (schmidt). Excerpt from The Etiology of Yellow Fever: A Preliminary Note Taken in connection with Case 11, in which we have been unable to find any other source of infection than the bite of an infected mos quito, five days preceding the attack, the case of Dr. C. (case 10, Table III) becomes strongly confirmatory of the same origin. We will now briefly give the history of the third case of yellow fever that has occurred at Columbia Barracks during the period August 17 to October 13, 1900. In the light of Cases 10 and 11, we consider this case of sufficient importance to be here included, especially as it is one that might be possibly designated as a case of accidental infection by a mosquito.
