The guidelines contained in this report set levels for volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions by the coating facilities of automotive original equipment manufacturers as used for the finishing of automobiles, vans, sport/utility vehicles, and light trucks. Performance standards and guidelines are presented for new and existing sources, and a methodology is included for calculation of VOC emissions based on the total quantity of solvents used in such operations as metal cleaning, priming, surfacing, painting, and facility maintenance. Finally, codes of good practice are set out with regard to solvent management, operator training, materials handling, maintenance, and cleaning. Checklists are included for self-assessment of coating facilities.
