El presente libro denominado MANUAL PARA LA ELABORACIÓN E IMPLEMENTACION DE UN MODELO DE EVALUACIÓN POR COMPETENCIAS, es el resultado de once años de trabajo, asesoría y acompañamiento a tres grandes instituciones públicas, en donde he sido Rector y de las cuales me siento muy orgulloso. Este manual parte primero desde lo que es la fundamentación, es decir el manejo de conceptos claves como: competencias, evaluación enseñar y aprender desde la perspectiva de procesos. De modo que el lector tenga una clara concepción de lo que debe saber sobre el tema y así poder plantear un modelo y los pasos que se deben seguir para su implementación. Este manual le permite a los docentes crear un modelo práctico de evaluación que facilita la promoción y el éxito de los estudiantes. En la mayoría de países latinoamericanos se habla mucho de competencias, pero no se tiene bien claro que son y cómo aplicarlas en el contexto de la escuela y más complicado aún el cómo volverlas un elemento base para el proceso de evaluación. Este manual pretende ofrecer un enfoque o concepción básica de competencia en donde el docente en un lenguaje sencillo pueda entenderla en toda su esencia y aplicación. Otro aspecto importante de este manual está en ofrecer procedimientos que faciliten el proceso de evaluación en las instituciones educativas, acompañado de una serie de instrumentos que le permitan a las instituciones contar con herramientas que evidencien los avances de la evaluación en las instituciones, herramientas que le darán mayor forma al diseño curricular.

En los últimos años, son numerosos los estudios sobe el papel que el autoconcepto desempeña en la conducta y en el aprendizaje escolar. Este interés, en parte, viene propiciado por la idea de que cada sujeto actúa y rinde no como lo que es, sino como lo que cree que es. Esta idea es reafirmada por las investigaciones recientes sobre la motivación académica y sobre las características de los sujetos que autorregulan de modo eficaz su aprendizaje. Atender a las percepciones que los estudiantes tienen de sí mismos y de su competencia académica parece crucial en el desarrollo de un modelo comprensivo del aprendizaje escolar y además se deben tener en cuenta a la hora de proyectar la práctica educativa, si se quiere que los alumnos se impliquen activamente en su proceso de aprendizaje. En el libro que aquí se presenta, se aborda de una manera amplia y exhaustiva esta problemática.

The main objective of this Research Topic is to determine the conditions that place students at risk of school failure, identifying student and context variables. In spite of the fact that there is currently little doubt about how one learns and how to teach, in some countries of the “developed world,” there is still there is a high rate of school failure. Although the term “school failure” is a very complex construct, insofar as its causes, consequences, and development, from the field of educational psychology, the construct “student engagement” has recently gained special interest in an attempt to deal with the serious problem of school failure. School engagement builds on the anatomy of the students’ involvement in school and describes their feelings, behaviors, and thoughts about their school experiences. So, engagement is an important component of students’ school experience, with a close relationship to achievement and school failure. Children who self-set academic goals, attend school regularly and on time, behave well in class, complete their homework, and study at home are likely to interact adequately with the school social and physical environments and perform well in school. In contrast, children who miss school are more likely to display disruptive behaviors in class, miss homework frequently, exhibit violent behaviors on the playground, fail subjects, be retained and, if the behaviors persist, quit school. Moreover, engagement should also be considered as an important school outcome, eliciting more or less supportive reactions from educators. For example, children who display school-engaged behaviors are likely to receive motivational and instructional support from their teachers. The opposite may also be true. But what makes student engage more or less? The relevant literature indicates that personal variables (e.g., sensory, motor, neurodevelopmental, cognitive, motivational, emotional, behavior problems, learning difficulties, addictions), social and/or cultural variables (e.g., negative family conditions, child abuse, cultural deprivation, ethnic conditions, immigration), or school variables (e.g., coexistence at school, bullying, cyberbullying) may concurrently hinder engagement, preventing the student from acquiring the learnings in the same conditions as the rest of the classmates.

Burnout is a relatively common yet poorly understood phenomenon that often results from relentlessly giving of oneself in the service of others. It has also been known to occur in non-human service work. When this giving of oneself becomes excessive, dysfunctional consequences can develop, such as emotional exhaustion, cynicism, depression, and withdrawal. A range of physical consequences can also develop, including high blood pressure, immune system depletion, and a wide range of physical ailments. This book details our evolving knowledge of burnout syndrome and addresses a variety of proposed interventions. These interventions can take place on individual, group, and organizational levels. The importance of burnout has been recently brought to light by depictions of the plight of healthcare workers who have been brought to the brink of exhaustion by the unrelenting demands made upon them by the COVID-19 pandemic. This book elucidates the nature of burnout and how we can best cope with it as individuals and as a society.
