El estudio de la teoría de las potencias medias en las relaciones internacionales adquirió un particular auge, específicamente al finalizar la segunda guerra mundial, cuando el orden global sufría una reconfiguración de poderes de cara al inicio de la guerra fría. En esa época, algunos Estados buscaron posicionarse como líderes regionales emergentes y encontraron en esta reestructuración de poderes de posguerra una oportunidad para alzar sus voces en torno a temas que las grandes potencias no habían atendido a cabalidad y que era de urgente necesidad llevarlos a la mesa de discusión en los foros internacionales. En este contexto de posguerra, tanto México como Canadá buscaron posicionarse en el nuevo orden mundial y desarrollaron estrategias para adoptar políticas exteriores de potencias medias en el mediano plazo, que resultaron ser fuente de convergencias y, por ende, de acercamientos cada vez más estrechos entre ambos países a partir de su establecimiento oficial en 1944. En tal sentido, el presente libro tiene como propósito, entre otros, mostrar una panorámica general de la evolución de las relaciones económicas y políticas de los países actores, utilizando el enfoque teórico de “potencias medias” para definir las relaciones bilaterales entre ambas naciones han experimentado un crecimiento en temas estratégicos debido a la formulación de políticas exteriores con características de “potencia media”, o si estas relaciones se redefinieron a raíz de la entrada en vigor del Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN)
