Jacquard fabrics feature intricately woven designs. Through the use of digital technology, new design concepts, principles and methods for producing jacquard fabrics have been established, facilitating the creation of a range of novel effects. Innovative jacquard textile design using digital technologies is a unique guide to the fundamental design principles, techniques and applications resulting from this important development.Beginning with an introduction to jacquard textile design, the book goes on to give an overview of the development of jacquard fabrics and textile design methods. The principles and methods of digital jacquard textile design are considered, followed by a chapter on structural digital design. Subsequent chapters cover the digital design of colourless and colourful jacquard textiles, and the use of novel simulative effects, shot effects and double-face effects in jacquard textiles. A review of the applications of digitally designed jacquard textiles is then presented before the book concludes with a discussion of current issues and future trends in digital jacquard textile design. With its distinguished authors, Innovative jacquard textile design using digital technologies is an authoritative guide for all those looking to employ this exciting technology in their work, including designers and product developers in the textile, interior and apparel industries, and academics interested in this field. Provides a unique guide to the fundamental design principles, techniques and applications of jacquard textile design Covers structural digital design, digital design of colourless and colourful jacquard textiles, simulative effects, shot effects and double-face effects Includes a comprehensive discussion of current issues and future trends in digital jacquard textile design

The practice-based research methodology was adopted in this research study. This study combined the theories of colour-changing and weaving technologies, practical concept development in creating high value interior home textiles products including "smart sofa cloth, curtain, dining table cloth, glass mat and lamp cover" that could fit into the current interior and home textiles market. The research design of this study was divided into five major stages: the "research stage", "analysis stage", "design of initial prototypes", "evaluation stage", and "detail design" in order to create the high value colour-changing smart home textiles prototypes that could correspond to both human and environmental factors. The theoretical design process model of colour-changing smart home textiles was developed and based on the concept of French's design process model as well as the adoption of product development process and engineering approach to industrial design. The main process was detailed as follows: a) identifying needs; b) analysis of problem; conceptual design; embodiment of schemes; c) detailing. The final colour changing smart home textiles prototypes were then created according to the developed design process model. From this study, the knowledge of colour-changing smart home textiles from the aesthetic and functional perspectives can be enhanced and provide novelty in the contemporary textile design industry. The proposed design process model of colour-changing smart home textiles is able to illustrate the innovative design development for contemporary interior home textiles. The developed high value colour-changing smart home textiles prototypes are able to br utilises in different types of textiles products so as to meet the challenging needs of future lifestyle and consumer requirements. Both of the textile design industry and, fashion and textile design education can be profited because of the theoretical and practical contributions made in this study.

This is a study of the material life of information and its devices; of electronic waste in its physical and electronic incarnations; a cultural and material mapping of the spaces where electronics in the form of both hardware and information accumulate, break down, or are stowed away. Where other studies have addressed "digital" technology through a focus on its immateriality or virtual qualities, Gabrys traces the material, spatial, cultural and political infrastructures that enable the emergence and dissolution of these technologies. In the course of her book, she explores five interrelated "spaces" where electronics fall apart: from Silicon Valley to Nasdaq, from containers bound for China to museums and archives that preserve obsolete electronics as cultural artifacts, to the landfill as material repository. Digital Rubbish: A Natural History of Electronics describes the materiality of electronics from a unique perspective, examining the multiple forms of waste that electronics create as evidence of the resources, labor, and imaginaries that are bundled into these machines. Ranging across studies of media and technology, as well as environments, geography, and design, Jennifer Gabrys draws together the far-reaching material and cultural processes that enable the making and breaking of these technologies.

Throughout the discussions about globalisation and design, what has been missing until now are deliberations regarding necessary changes towards a design education which puts conceptual acting in the context of global movements and problem situations. This publication pleads for a revision of design education. It addresses students, teachers, and design practitioners. On the basis of concrete examples, concepts, methods and tools are presented for discussion. They can open up new directions and possibilities of design education. Consequently, this book focuses on design students experiences and reflections as contributions to a design education understood as a school for differentiated perception. The local level the respective Cultural Space is appreciated as the actual hot spot of globalisation. The book offers reports, case studies, analyses, and reflections by lecturers, artists, and students about their working experiences in Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Nigeria, Botswana, South Sudan, India, Canada, Albania, the USA and others.

The annual Asian Development Outlook analyzes economic performance in the past year and offers forecasts for the next 2 years for the 45 economies in Asia and the Pacific that make up developing Asia. Growth prospects in the region are upbeat, buoyed by favorable demand at home and abroad. A strong performance in 2017 reflected a surge in exports, which will likely abate this year and next, and rapidly expanding domestic demand. While the outlook is for steady growth, risks to it are decidedly on the downside: Trade friction could weaken recently deepened trade links, tightening US monetary policy could diminish investment in developing Asia, and rising domestic private debt may hamper growth. New technologies drive higher productivity, the foundation for economic growth, better-paid jobs, and poverty reduction. The latest technologies in robotics and artificial intelligence may threaten some jobs, however, and leave less-skilled workers behind. To maximize gains in productivity while safeguarding social welfare, governments in developing Asia should protect workers but not preserve particular jobs. Meanwhile, they should facilitate the countervailing forces in new technologies that generate new jobs. Dealing with the downsides of new technology requires synchronized effort on skills development, labor regulation, social protection, and income redistribution.
