The Academy is an institution for the study and teaching of public and private international law and related subjects. Its purpose is to encourage a thorough and impartial examination of the problems arising from international relations in the field of law. The courses deal with the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject, including legislation and case law. All courses at the Academy are, in principle, published in the language in which they were delivered in the "Collected Courses of the" "Hague Academy of International Law." This volume contains: - Souverainete territoriale et globalisation des marches: le domaine d'application des lois contre les restrictions de la concurrence, par J. BASEDOW, professeur a l'Universite libre de Berlin. The number of national laws that protect competition against private restrictions are constantly increasing. Their application to trans-boundary situations poses difficult problems for both private international law and public international law. The course deals with both, either with respect to application of the "lex fori" or with respect to application of foreign laws. - Enforcement in the International Context by K.D. KERAMEUS, Professor at the University of Athens. In recent years, enforcement proceedings have gone through a comprehensive reform in many countries. Furthermore, modern enforcement increasingly relies on foreign judgements. The course focuses on three subjects: the comparative element in recent codifications and case-law developments in the area of enforcement: salient and converging trends in the enforcement of foreign judgments on the basis of domestic law or international conventions: and the delimitation of "lex fori"and foreign law during the enforcement proceedings. International relations theorists are increasingly turning to historical sociology as a means both of broadening and refining their discipline, and critiquing mainstream thinking. Nevertheless, there is still only a rudimentary understanding of what historical sociology is and what it can offer the subject. This book acts as a manifesto for historical sociology, considering a range of issues, including accounts of the major variants of historical sociology; how they can be applied to international relations; why international relations theorists should engage with these approaches; and how historical sociological insight can enhance and reconfigure the study of international relations. In addition to describing the seven major approaches - neo-Weberianism, constructivisim, critical historical materialism, critical theory, postmodernism, structural realism and World Systems theory - the volume s introductory and concluding chapters set out in detail an approach and research agenda that revolve around what the editors call world sociology .

"The author, director of the Lauterpacht Center for International Law, examines in this course the multilateral rights and obligations in International Law. He starts by introducing terms that a priori do not seem to pose any particular problem (such as for instance the terms bilateral and multilateral), but that on closer inspection deserve to be looked at in more detail. He then gives an historical outline of the development of multilateral law-making. In the next chapter he examines the multilateral treaty as constitution and the United Nation Charter. James Crawford then studies the "sources" of international law as sources of multilateral rights and obligations: multilateral rights and obligations as components of general international law, and the development of the multilateral categories (jus cogens, etc.). In the last chapters, Professor Crawford tackles the question of claims for breaches of multilateral obligations and the decriminalization of State responsibility by looking at the peremptory norms and international crimes of State"--Publisher's description.
