Many Americans today realize that their own government is steadily becoming the greatest danger and threat to their rights, liberties, and future prosperity. In their attempt to right the errant ways of American government, millions of Americans have looked to the Constitution for answers, and yet “what is Constitutional” continues to elude those that we the people elect to political office. In Recovering American Liberty, the authors note the importance of the Constitution, but present an argument that contemporary Americans have lost sight of the ethical principles that the Constitution was conceived and written in, and ratified only in the light of – those being the self-evident truth principles laid out in the Declaration of Independence. Recovering American Liberty explores the Declaration of Independence and each of those self-evident truths. The authors reason that without Americans first becoming a people who once again embrace these principles in the Declaration, then all their efforts to Make America Great Again, will be for not. For, it is only because Americans once honored these principles in their personal lives, that America as a nation, became Great in the first place.

Leading economist John B. Taylor’s straightforward plan to rebuild America’s economic future by returning to its founding principles. Mired in a crippling economic slump and hamstrung by partisan political debates, America faces substantial economic challenges, from widespread unemployment to the government’s ballooning debt. These assaults on our prosperity reflect the unintended consequences of more than a decade of government intervention in virtually all areas of the economy. Stanford University economist John B. Taylor proposes a natural and reasonable solution to our economic challenges: return to the country’s founding principles—limited government, rule of law, strong incentives, reliance on markets, a predictable policy framework—and rekindle its economic dynamism.

Fittingly, the Act's chief sponsors were a Senator from Nevada, Key Pittman, and a Representative from Virginia, A. Willis Robertson. The Pittman-Robertson Act, as it came to be called, sped through Congress and was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt on September 2, 1937. From a modest beginning, the Pittman-Robertson program has grown with the economy and the human population of our country. By now it has channeled nearly $1.7 billion in Federal excise tax receipts, augmented by some $600 million from the States, into activities to restore wildlife. The projects include State acquisition of acreage needed to bring wildlife back, research into wildlife requirements and problems, active management of habitats, and development of scientific ways to enable wildlife and people to share our land in harmony. The program has strengthened State governments and built wildlife management into a respected profession.
