This Anthology is a pictorial documentation of the Rapid City Flood of 1972; one of the deadliest floods in U.S. history. With a victim toll of more than 200, widespread destruction and damage to cars, trailers, homes, buildings, dams, scenic landscapes, canyons, parks, creeks and farms, these collections take readers on a harrowing journey through the devastation that resulted from the flood. The Anthology also includes before and after pictures of some of the restoration that took place following the natural disaster, some of the individuals involved in the cleanup, rescue and recovery effort, including members of the South Dakota National Guard. Lastly, the Anthology also includes the Memorial Park tribute in honor of flood victims and the resolve of the people of Rapid City.

Rapid City, South Dakota, June 9, 1972... 238 people died, 5 are still missing. In the midst of one of the worst floods in the history of the US, one young woman clung to the roof of a house. Merlyn Magner survived, but she lost her brother, mother, and father. Questions coursed through her mind then and for much of the rest of her life: Why did this happen? Why did my family die?
