The monumental bestseller Quiet has been recast in a new edition that empowers introverted kids and teens Susan Cain sparked a worldwide conversation when she published Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking. With her inspiring book, she permanently changed the way we see introverts and the way introverts see themselves. The original book focused on the workplace, and Susan realized that a version for and about kids was also badly needed. This book is all about kids' world—school, extracurriculars, family life, and friendship. You’ll read about actual kids who have tackled the challenges of not being extroverted and who have made a mark in their own quiet way. You’ll hear Susan Cain’s own story, and you’ll be able to make use of the tips at the end of each chapter. There’s even a guide at the end of the book for parents and teachers. This insightful, accessible, and empowering book, illustrated with amusing comic-style art, will be eye-opening to extroverts and introverts alike.

Praise for Food Swings “It’s a lot easier to make healthy choices when the meals are both good for you and crazy good at the same time. Jessica Seinfeld’s new book, Food Swings, has that nailed, packed as it is with simple recipes that are kind to your body, crowd-pleasingly delicious (quit the side-eye, picky fourth grader), even gluten-free. Dinner victory, all around.”—Redbook “Seinfeld has assembled 125 recipes that allow readers to eat as healthfully or indulgently as their mood dictates. . . . Readers can have their cake and quinoa, too, with Seinfeld’s latest, which strikes an effective balance between two popular eating styles.”—Library Journal “Jessica Seinfeld gets it, even down to the one-liners. With three cookbooks under her apron, Seinfeld takes a cue or two from her husband, Jerry, targeting both the devil and the damsel in her 125 recipes. She’s eminently practical, very straightforward, and keeps her dishes in line with our modern proclivities: quick, healthy with an occasional sinfulness, convenient for the beginner as well as for the experienced home chef.”—Booklist “In a friendly voice Seinfeld encourages readers to take her approach to what she calls ‘food swings’ and eat without guilt. Or, she concedes, to eat with less guilt. . . . However you divide up the recipes, this is a great day-to-day cookbook with tasty-looking recipes that are approachable and simple to prepare.”—Publishers Weekly

Major changes have been occurring almost unnoticed in staple value chains in Asia. The Quiet Revolution in Staple Food Value Chains documents and explains the transformation of value chains moving rice and potatoes between the farm gate and the consumer in Bangladesh, the People’s Republic of China, and India. The changes noted are the rapid rise of supermarkets, modern cold storage facilities, large rice mills, and commercialized small farmers using input-intensive, mechanized technologies. These changes affect food security in ways that are highly relevant for policymakers across Asia—the rise of supermarkets provides cheaper staples, more direct relations in the chains combined with branding have increased traceability, and the rise of cold storage has brought higher incomes for potato farmers and all-season access for potato consumers. The book also joins two debates that have long been separate and parallel—food industry and agribusiness development and market competitiveness—with the food security and poverty alleviation agend

Food sovereignty has been a fundamentally contested concept in global agrarian discourse over the last two decades, as a political project and campaign, an alternative, a social movement, and an analytical framework. It has inspired and mobilized diverse publics: workers, scholars and public intellectuals, farmers and peasant movements, NGOs, and human rights activists in the global North and South. The term ‘food sovereignty’ has become a challenging subject for social science research, and has been interpreted and reinterpreted in a variety of ways. It is broadly defined as the right of peoples to democratically control or determine the shape of their food system, and to produce sufficient and healthy food in culturally appropriate and ecologically sustainable ways in and near their territory. However, various theoretical issues remain: sovereignty at what scale and for whom? How are sovereignties contested? What is the relationship between food sovereignty and human rights frameworks? What might food sovereignty mean extended to a broader set of social relations in urban contexts? How do the principles of food sovereignty interact with local histories and contexts? This comprehensive volume examines what food sovereignty might mean, how it might be variously construed, and what policies it implies. This book was originally published as a special issue of the journal Globalizations.
