The primary objective of this supplemental investigation for the BRAC EE is to evaluate four facility-wide Areas Requiring Environmental Evaluation (AREE) as outlined in the Enhanced Preliminary Assessment, Fort Devens, Massachusetts, April 1992. USATHAMA. The following AREEs will be evaluated: Maintenance and Waste Accumulation Areas; Transformers; Past Spill Site; and Previously Removed Underground Storage Tanks.

This Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAP) is designed to provide general coverage of a broad range of quality assurance issues in support of activities associated with site investigations, evaluations, and studies at Fort Devens, Massachusetts.

This Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Cleanup Plan (BCP) describes the status, and management and response strategy related to Fort Devens ongoing environmental restoration and associated compliance programs. The scope of the BCP is based on requirements derived from the following laws: the Base Closure and Realignment Act; National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) as amended by the Community Environmental Response Facilitation Act (CERFA); Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA); and other applicable laws. The BCP is intended to be a dynamic planning document, developed by a BRAC Cleanup Team (BCT). The BCP will be updated regularly to reflect the current status and strategies of remedial actions and compliance programs. This document is the latest in a series of updates and represents conditions and strategies as of April 1996.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has the mission to conceive and execute civil works projects in the nation's waterways. Projects relating to this mission are subject to various environmental regulations that require the collection of environmental data for project planning, design, construction, and operation. These data-collection processes must be performed under controlled conditions to be legally defensible. An effective quality assurance (QA) plan is needed to meet these requirements. in response to the need for a guidance document to assist Corps personnel with the preparation of QA project plans, a task group met and recommended the preparation of a single standardized approach that would be applicable to all civil works data-collection programs. This guidance report was prepared in response to this recommendation.

The purpose of this SOP is to ensure the safety and integrity of water and sediment samples that are transferred from the one location (ie. field) to another (ie. laboratory) for testing.
