In the current era, e-Governance has emerged as a most prominent tool for strengthening democracy. Therefore, in the year 2006, the Government of India launched National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) which encompasses thirty-one Mission Mode Projects to automate high priority tasks associated with rural and urban areas of the country. However, the government is spending an enormous amount of funds in deployment of e-Governance; still, the success ratio of e-Governance projects in India is not overwhelming. The fourteen chapters within this fascinating compendium act as precious gems, reflecting light on diversified aspects of the intents converged towards e-Governance in India via evolution, implementation challenges, impact on societal issues, development of novel frameworks, involved legal issues and prospects. This book is an attempt to investigate the dominating aspects of conquering the objectives of e-Governance. Ever since a democratic system of government was adopted and a strategy of planned economic development was launched in India, the planners were quite conscious of the need for an administrative system different from the colonial one to implement the planned objective of development. Kuldeep Mathur, in this volume, examines these administrative reforms and provides a magisterial account of the changes in the institutional process of public administration. The introduction of neoliberal policies revived concerns about reform and change, thereby giving rise to a new vocabulary in the discourse of public administration. The conventional world of public administration was now expected to adopt management practices of the private sector and interact with it to achieve public policy goals. New institutions are now being layered on traditional ones, and India is becoming a recipient of managerial ideas whose efficacy has yet to be tested on Indian soil. In light of the aforementioned changes, this volume argues that hybrid architecture for delivering public goods and services has been the most significant transformation to be institutionalized in the current era and critiques the neoliberal transformation from within a mainstream public administration perspective.

This book provides a macroeconomic analysis of the Indian economy. It is a long-run study that spans the period from 1950-51 to 1992-93, encompassing the various turning points in India's economic policy and development strategies. The macroeconometric model used in the book integrates the monetary and real sectors of the economy. In order to provide theoretical underpinnings for the model, the book traces the development of macroeconomic theory including Keynesian, structuralist, and supply-side economics. The model explains the public sector's current and capital expenditures, rather than treating them as exogenous variables. A subrecursive system of prices is formulated in terms of unit cost based on the flow of factor income generated in the process of production, monetary variable, and agriculture supply factors. The model analyzes and evaluates policy changes in India, particularly since 1984. It is used to derive the appropriate mix of fiscal, monetary, and trade policies needed to generate significant economic growth in 1997-2000 in a non-inflationary environment. While fiscal and monetary discipline is vital in this regard, public-sector investment plays an important role in capital formation and economic growth.

The study attempts to share, from a legal and institutional perspective, the World Bank experience with regional projects in the past two decades, to assess the difficulties involved in their preparation and to look at the way of going forward.

The Department of Economics of Meenakshi College for Women organized a two day National Seminar titled "Rural Infrastructure in India—Issues and Prospects" on 24th and 25th of November, 2016. The Seminar focused on different areas in rural infrastructure, the challenges therein and future prospects. It aimed at providing a platform for sharing the knowledge of experts in the field and an inspiring opportunity for exchange of ideas among researchers and scholars. The purpose of this seminar was to make an objective assessment of our successes and failures in our efforts, to throw light on such issues and suggest measures to improve the status of rural infrastructure, to identify the research areas relating to rural infrastructure, to search for solutions leading to better rural productivity and better life.
