This three-volume set explores the multiple roles that parties and interest groups have played in American politics from the nation's beginnings to the present. This set serves as an essential resource for analyzing the emergence and impact of parties and interest groups in the American political system and for understanding the systematic and structural bases for interest group and party behavior. Volume One opens with an introduction by the editors that provides a general overview of the eras and identifies important themes and events, laying a foundation on which the subsequent essays and primary documents for each interest group or political party builds. Narrative essays focus on how specific parties or interest groups have shaped or reflect a particular set of events or general themes in each of the eras in American political history. Topical entries reflect key themes developed throughout the volumes. Entries range from important founding groups and parties to contemporary political action committees and policy advocacy groups. The set also includes primary source documents (e.g., letters, platform documents, court decisions, flyers, etc.) that reveal important dimensions of the corresponding group's political influence.

This book delves into the reality of large public projects, to show how they can be managed effectively and efficiently, recognising the realities of their context. It offers a range of practical conclusions as to the paradoxes of the governance and management of public projects. The international spectrum of authors draw their examples from the UK, Norway, Canada, France, Australia and the Netherlands. Bridging the gap between research, theory and practice, this book will benefit academics and researchers in the field of project management and corporate governance as well as those in the practice of public project governance, civil servants and industry practitioners.

The 20th Anniversary Retrospective from Miami’s Locust Projects comprehensively documents and celebrates 20 years of ground-breaking contemporary art from the Southeast’s leading alternative art space with a playful and sophisticated graphic design. Locust Projects, the Southeast’s leading alternative art space, documents its first 20 years in The 20th Anniversary Retrospective. The cutting-edge art space offers contemporary visual artists the freedom to experiment with new ideas. Locust’s ethos of encouraging exploration and breaking boundaries has, at times, extended to the very integrity of its physical space (think jackhammered floors). This volume includes a comprehensive visual record of over 150 exhibitions and projects, essays and commentary, a written timeline, and extensive quotes. Included are works by renowned artists such as Daniel Arsham, Hernan Bas, Nathan Carter, Francesa DiMattio, Jim Drain, Jon Pylypchuk, Retna, and Cristina Lei Rodriguez. The book includes text by director Lorie Mertes and board members Steve Lanster and Debra and Dennis Scholl. The innovative book design, like Locust Projects itself, experiments with convention. Visually referencing a calendar, the volume leads readers on a voyage of discovery through the organization’s history, with each year’s images visually bleeding into the next across French-fold pages. The cover’s thin strips of images are details from installation photos. This book will appeal to anyone interested in contemporary art, including artists, art lovers, collectors, students, curators, gallerists, and arts administrators.

This book deals with sustainable affordable housing in developing countries, providing the main results of the BECOMe research project of the Politecnico di Milano. Sustainable, affordable housing in developing countries is increasingly important for African and international stakeholders, with massive urbanization processes involving many countries consuming large territories and natural resources minus any strategy of sustainability and social equality and without consideration of the long-term effects on the environment and subsequent generations. While the issue of affordable housing requires approaches adapted to the many specific African contexts, the case of Somalia seems representative of a fragile context characterized by the uncertainty of the social, political, and economic situations and the lack of common shared legislative references and strategies. The book aims to provide knowledge and propose a methodological framework developed from this particular situation that can serve as a template. On the basis of this main objective, the book deals with approaches and problems related to the creation of sustainable housing ecosystems, activating and boosting local enterprises and stimulating foreign investors to revamp the national AEC sector and related manufacturing industries, models for modular settlements, and business models and assessment methodologies useful for evaluating a set of appropriate technological solutions.
