Therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals play a major role in today's nuclear medicine with a positive impact on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. One area of application is radiation synovectomy (RSV). Previously, RSV agents were often simple colloids. More recently, matrixes labelled with short/medium range beta emitters have been developed. However, the lack of generic and peer-reviewed production, quality control as well as clinical application guidelines and recommendations, are a major concern for their application in patients. This publication presents recommendations and suggestions for production, quality control and quality assurance procedures for Member State laboratories in charge of radiopharmaceutical production, with a focus on the latest RSV agents. It also proposes standard operating procedures for RSV application in patients. The publication aims to assist both newcomers and those currently working in the field in establishing comparable levels of control.

Low Energy Particle Accelerator-Based Technologies and Their Applications describes types of low energy accelerators, presents some of the main manufacturers, illustrates some of the accelerator laboratories around the globe and shows examples of successful transfers of accelerators to needed laboratories. Key Features: Presents new trends and the state of the art in a field that's growing Provides an overview of numerous applications of such accelerators in medicine, industry, earth sciences, nuclear non-proliferation and oil Fills a gap, with the author drawing on his own experiences with transporting such relatively large machines from one lab to the other that require a tremendous amount of planning, technical and engineering efforts This is an essential reference for advanced students as well as for physicists, engineers and practitioners in accelerator science. About the Author Dr. Vladivoj (Vlado) Valković, a retired professor of physics, is a fellow of the American Physical Society and Institute of Physics (London). He has authored 22 books (from Trace Elements, Taylor & Francis, 1975, to Radioactivity in the Environment, Elsevier, 1st Edition 2001, 2nd Edition 2019), and more than 400 scientific and technical papers in the research areas of nuclear physics, applications of nuclear techniques to trace element analysis in biology, medicine and environmental research. He has lifelong experience in the study of nuclear reactions induced by 14 MeV neutrons. This research has been done through coordination and works on many national and international projects, including US-Croatia bilateral, NATO, IAEA, EU-FP5, FP6 and FP7 projects. This publication presents a harmonized approach to quality assurance in the field of computed tomography applied to both diagnostics and therapy. It gives a careful analysis of the principles and specific instructions that can be used for a quality assurance programme for optimal performance and reduced patient dose in diagnostic radiology. In some cases, radiotherapy programmes are making a transition from 2-D to 3-D radiotherapy, a complex process which critically depends on accurate treatment planning. In this respect, the authors also provide detailed information about the elements needed for quality assurance testing, including those relating to accurate patient characterization as needed for radiotherapy treatment planning.

This manual provides a harmonized approach to quality assurance (QA) in the emerging area of digital mammography. It outlines the principles of, and specific instructions that can be used for, a QA programme for the optimal detection of early stage breast cancer within a digital environment. Intended for use by Member States that are now using digital mammography or that are assessing the implications of using digital mammography, it addresses major areas such as considerations concerning the transition from screen film to digital mammography, basic principles of QA, clinical image quality, quality control tests for radiographers, and quality control tests for medical physicists, including dosimetry assessment. Instructional materials to supplement the knowledge of professionals already working in the field of diagnostic radiology, as well as quality control worksheets, are also provided.

Due to a great chemical similarity with the biological calcified tissues, many calcium orthophosphates possess remarkable biocompatibility and bioactivity. Materials scientists use this property extensively to construct artificial bone grafts that are either entirely made of or only surface-coated with the biologically relevant calcium orthophospha

This book provides detailed information on therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals and discusses emerging technologies which have potential for broad clinical implementation. Recent advances in molecular biology, radiopharmaceutical chemistry and radioisotope production have stimulated a new era for the use of radiopharmaceuticals for targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT). Emerging clinical trials include use of peptides and monoclonal antibodies radiolabeled with therapeutic radionuclides for cancer therapy. In addition, small molecules are used for the treatment of chronic diseases such as metastatic bone pain palliation and radiation synovectomy of inflammatory joints. In the interventional arena, therapy of primary and metastatic liver cancer and arterial restenosis following angioplasty of both the coronary and peripheral arteries are being explored. Reactor and accelerator production of therapeutic radioisotopes is also integrated into these discussions. The development and use of radiopharmaceutical targeting characteristics required for treatment of specific disease processes and how these are implemented for radiopharmaceutical design strategies are also described. Radiopharmaceuticals for Therapy will benefit audiences in nuclear medicine and radionuclide therapy and will thus prove an invaluable source of up-to-date information for students, radiopharmaceutical scientists and professionals working in the radiopharmacy and nuclear medicine specialties.
