This is a volume of research articles related to finite groups. Topics covered include the classification of finite simple groups, the theory of p-groups, cohomology of groups, representation theory and the theory of buildings and geometries. As well as more than twenty original papers on the latest developments, which will be of great interest to specialists, the volume contains several expository articles, from which students and non-experts can learn about the present state of knowledge and promising directions for further research. The Finite Groups 2003 conference was held in honor of John Thompson. The profound influence of his fundamental contributions is clearly visible in this collection of papers dedicated to him.

The papers in this volume represent the proceedings of the Conference entitled “Ischia Group Theory 2010”, which took place at NH Ischia Thermal SPA Resort, Ischia, Naples, Italy, from April 14 to April 17, 2010. The articles in this volume are contributions by speakers and participants of the Conference.The volume contains a collection of research articles by leading experts in group theory and some accessible surveys of recent research in the area. These proceedings comprise two workshops celebrating the accomplishments of David J. Benson on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. The papers presented at the meetings were representative of the many mathematical subjects he has worked on, with an emphasis on group prepresentations and cohomology. The first workshop was titled "Groups, Representations, and Cohomology" and held from June 22 to June 27, 2015 at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. The second was a combination of a summer school and workshop on the subject of "Geometric Methods in the Representation Theory of Finite Groups" and took place at the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver from July 27 to August 5, 2016. The contents of the volume include a composite of both summer school material and workshop-derived survey articles on geometric and topological aspects of the representation theory of finite groups. The mission of the annually sponsored Summer Schools is to train and draw new students, and help Ph.D students transition to independent research.

This volume is an outcome of the International Conference on Algebra in celebration of the 70th birthday of Professor Shum Kar-Ping which was held in Gadjah Mada University on 7?10 October 2010.
