The first comprehensive text to address adolescent medicine as a separate field of study, COMPREHENSIVE ADOLESCENT HEALTH CARE, 2nd Edition remains a one-stop resource for primary care providers and adolescent medicine subspecialists, covering all aspects of the field in a highly practical format. Completely revised, it includes up-to-date information on drug abuse, adolescent sexuality, HIV infections, violence, ADD and learning disorders, adolescent pregnancy, financial considerations relevant to adolescent health care, and much more. In addition to its day-to-day usefulness in practice, it is an excellent study reference for the pediatric or internal medicine Boards, both of which now require knowledge of adolescent medicine. * Includes medical, psychosocial, and surgical problems specific to adolescents, as well as chapters on normal adolescent development. * Presents unfamiliar concepts in an easy-to-read, jargon-free manner, making it accessible and appealing to a wide range of practitioners. * Features superb color plates on cervical findings and the Pap smear, dermatologic disorders, and more. * Includes particularly detailed illustrations of typical progression of female and male pubertal development, and clearly depicts steps in the female pelvic examination. * Provides a wide perspective on adolescent medicine from over 180 experts, under the editorial guidance of four renowned practitioners in the field. Expanded to provide background for new Board requirements in adolescent medicine. More than 20 new chapters, including an expanded section on mental health problems and a new section on emergency medical problems encountered in adolescents.

This volume paints a general picture of the environmental situation in Asia, backing it up with several case studies. Two major points are made in this general picture. The first is that environmental campaigns in Asia tend to have a local focus; they react to very concrete problems in the immediate neighbourhood and as such usually people are engaged in a cause for practical rather than idealistic reasons. Such can be seen in case studies from the volume dealing with campaigns against logging and tree plantations, tourist facilities and factories and in support or defence of nature reserves. This pattern is in marked contrast to the profile of the most successful Western movements (in terms of fund-raising at least) for whom the focus is on perceived problems in distant parts of the world. The second point is evidence in several of the case studies in the volume, namely that environmental campaigns cannot be understood in terms of environmental issues alone. Rather, they should be regarded as a form of cultural critique and frequently are a form of political resistance in situations where open political action is too risky.

This book provides new data and perspectives on the development of 'world religion' in post-colonial societies through an analysis of the development of 'Hinduism' in various parts of Indonesia from the early twentieth century to the present. This development has been largely driven by the religious and cultural policy of the Indonesian central government, although the process began during the colonial period as an indigenous response to the introduction of modernity.
