Gambling is fun. There is nothing like the bells, whistles and jackpots. In Prison, Insanity But Not Quite Death, Mike McNichols, chronicles his extraordinary journey into and ultimately out of the world of Compulsive Gambling. At the age of 28, Mike was living his dream of being a sports writer. He had married his high school sweetheart and had a beautiful young daughter when he changed careers rather than follow his dream. That single decision set in motion a 26-year search for self validation that led him to compulsive gambling, theft and prison. This is the story of great despair and loss. It is also the story of triumph in one man’s life as he comes to realize it is who we are, not what we possess, that defines our true being.

Maybe if you had found the right information about the passion for gambling in time... This is the third time I am addressing the topic, because I have more and more experience with the passion for gambling and fate is constantly bringing me together with more and more people who expect advice and help from me. At the same time, I am disturbed by the amount of theoretical reasoning that does not support addicts at any level to get solutions, a handhold, useful information, because some of them publish results obtained in "laboratory conditions" behind the scientific background - instead of meeting real addicts. If those affected only get the comforting certainty after reading my book that they are not alone and that there is a solution - several - then I have not written in vain. Unlike before, I'm switching to teeing now because I want us to get closer to each other, trust me to tell you everything I know about gambling addiction.

This book explores the manifold actual, possible and probable interconnections between gambling and crime in the context of the increased availability of wagering activities across many regions of the world. It examines the impact of the proliferation and propinquity of land-based betting establishments on crime, the role of organised crime in the provision of both licit and illicit forms of gambling, as well as problem gambling, crime and the administration of criminal justice. It also assesses the links between gambling, sport and corruption and the dimensions of crime that takes place in and around internet gambling sites. A thought-provoking study, this will be of particular interest to scholars in the fields of sociology, criminology and social policy.
