Built poetry: the 2019 Dulwich Pavilion designed by London-based architects Dingle Price and Alex Gore in collaboration with British artist Yinka Ilori. The Dulwich Picture Gallery in the south of London was the world's first purpose-built public art gallery. Founded in 1811, when Sir Francis Bourgeois RA bequeathed his collection of old masters "for the inspection of the public," it opened its famous building designed by John Soane in 1817. To mark the museum's bicentenary in 2017, Dulwich Picture Gallery commissioned the first temporary summer pavilion on its grounds. For the second edition of the Dulwich Pavilion in 2019, the commission was awarded to London-based architects Dingle Price and Alex Gore in collaboration with British artist Yinka Ilori. This elegant large-format book documents this piece of built poetry in a series of striking atmospheric photographs by Sophie Roycroft. Concise essays by Job Floris and Sumayya Vally situate the project within its social, political, and cultural context and are complemented by technical details and selected plans and drawings on and inside the book's cover.

Charlie Koolhaas is an artist, photographer, and writer in Rotterdam. City Lust is the name of a fragrance that she found in a Dubai perfumery wholesale showroom, but it is also the starting point of an expedition that leads Koolhaas to a variety of places in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. In Lagos, Guangzhou, Dubai, London, and Huston, she explores the rapid changes that a globalized economy forces upon these so very different metropolises. ​ During extended stays in each place, Koolhaas took a vast number of photographs, many of them of striking intensity. Her aim is not only to show the increasing uniformity of cities around the world, but also to demonstrate the discrepancy between cultural standardization and local diversity in the age of globalization. City Lust is a brilliant combination of everyday photography, pure documentation, and captivating observation. Accompanying the photos is an equally fascinating and illuminating essay by Koolhaas that brings together her own insights into global trade and its protagonists.

A pioneering painter and printmaker, Nikolai Astrup (1880-1928) spent his life capturing the landscapes of his home in Western Norway, imbuing his work with mysticism and an enigmatic symbolic content. The first UK exhibition of his work will run at the Dulwich Picture Gallery from February to May 2016. Over 90 oil paintings and prints will explore the breadth and depth of Astrup's unique artistic practice, shining a spotlight on of one of Norway's most renowned artists of the twentieth century. AUTHOR: Frances Carey is an independent curator and consultant who was formerly Deputy Keeper of Prints and Drawings and Head of National Programmes at the British Museum. She has published on the history of art and culture from the eighteenth century to the present day. Ian A.C. Dejardin is the Sackler Director of Dulwich Picture Gallery, London. He graduated with a Master (Hons) in History of Art from Edinburgh University; appointed Curator at Dulwich in 1997, he became the gallery's Director in 2005 and since then has presided over a varied and international exhibition programme. MaryAnne Stevens is an independent art historian and curator who has previously worked at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, as Director of Academic Affairs, before serving as Acting Secretary for three years. She has been published extensively, and curated or co-curated many major international exhibitions, including Manet: Portraying Life and Jean-Etienne Liotard. A revelatory opportunity, for Canadians and non-Canadians alike, to engage with the essence of Canada as portrayed in the luminous works of its artists The McMichael Canadian Art Collection has a unique mandate to celebrate the art of Canada, which it does within a great building in beautiful grounds overlooking the Humber River Valley. Originally a home completed in 1954 for entrepreneur Robert McMichael and his wife Signe, the building became an unofficial gallery when they began allowing passers-by and school parties inside to view their art collection. In 1965 they took the visionary step of donating their home, collection and land to the Province of Ontario and in 1966 the McMichael officially opened to the public. The permanent collection now consists of over 6,400 artworks. The iconic Canadian landscape artist Tom Thomson (1877-1917) features prominently, as do his colleagues the Group of Seven and their contemporaries. Historic and contemporary Indigenous art accounts for over a third of the total collection and is celebrated in the Gallery's dynamic exhibition program.
