Cet ouvrage réunit six études sur les prépositions et les postpositions à travers les langues. Ces formes posent des questions de type morphologique (s’agit-il de mots à part entière ou amalgamés ?), de type syntaxique (ont-ils leur propre régime ou sont-ils de simples marques de cas ?), et de type sémantique (sont-ils toujours polysémiques ? Peut-on parler de prépositions vides ?) Les prépositions et les postpositions « faibles », qui sont généralement les plus courtes et les plus fréquentes, sont analysées à l’aide de comparaisons de langues variées comme l’allemand, le coréen, l’espagnol ou le français. Prépositions et postpositions réunit des auteurs spécialistes de morphologie, de syntaxe et de sémantique.

L’Analisi Linguistica e Letteraria è una rivista internazionale di linguistica e letteratura peer reviewed. Ha una prospettiva sia sincronica che diacronica e accoglie ricerche di natura teorica e applicata. Seguendo un orientamento spiccatamente interdisciplinare, si propone di approfondire la comprensione dei processi di analisi testuale in ambito letterario come anche in ambito linguistico. La rivista è organizzata in tre sezioni: la prima contiene saggi e articoli; la seconda presenta discussioni e analisi d’opera relative alle scienze linguistiche e letterarie; la terza sezione ospita recensioni e una rassegna di brevi schede bibliografiche riguardanti la linguistica generale e le linguistiche delle singole lingue (francese, inglese, russo, tedesco). La rivista pubblica regolarmente articoli in francese, inglese, italiano e tedesco, e occasionalmente anche in altre lingue: nel 2010, ad esempio, ha pubblicato un volume tematico interamente in russo.

This book provides a comprehensive investigation of the origins, development, and stabilization of differential object marking (DOM) in Romanian. DOM, a means by which a grammar distinguishes between objects based on semantic features such as animacy or definiteness, has been a fruitful area of research in syntax, historical linguistics, and typology. In this volume, Virginia Hill and Alexandru Mardale demonstrate that Romanian DOM reflects a typological mix of Balkan and Romance patterns, and is in fact composed of three distinct mechanisms. Their analysis of these mechanisms reveals that DOM triggers in Romanian are located in the nominal domain, in contrast to languages such as Spanish, where they are located in the verbal domain. The cross-linguistic perspective adopted in the volume sheds light on existing typologies of DOM, particularly in relation to the variation observed in the merging location of the DOM particle and of the doubling pronominal clitic.

This volume intends to fill the gap in the grammaticalization studies setting as its goal the systematic description of grammaticalization processes in genealogically and structurally diverse languages. To address the problem of the limitations of the secondary sources for grammaticalization studies, the editors rely on sketches of grammaticalization phenomena from experts in individual languages guided by a typological questionnaire.

The strong development in research on grammatical number in recent years has created a need for a unified perspective. The different frameworks, the ramifications of the theoretical questions, and the diversity of phenomena across typological systems, make this a significant challenge. This book addresses the challenge with a series of in-depth analyses of number across a typologically diverse sample, unified by a common set of descriptive and analytic questions from a semantic, morphological, syntactic, and discourse perspective. Each case study is devoted to a single language, or in a few cases to a language group. This book presents a state-of-the-art cross-linguistic survey of applicative constructions in the functional-typological tradition. An introductory section sets the terminological and analytical stage, presents the methodology used by the different chapters, and provides a typological outlook. The individual contributions address the morphological, syntactic and semantic variation of applicatives, as well as their discourse-pragmatic function. They cover all major language families and some isolates that feature some illuminating version of the phenomenon, paying special attention to language-internal variation and unity. The phenomena surveyed range from those instances usually considered canonical (valency-increasing, syntactically and semantically predictable, productive, dedicated, and optional) to those occasionally understudied in descriptive works and frequently neglected in comparative studies (valency-neutral, rather unpredictable, lexicalized, syncretic, and/or obligatory).
