El volumen Precariedad, exclusión, marginalidad. Una historia conceptual de la pobreza analiza las transformaciones conceptuales que ha experimentado la percepción de la indigencia material en la cultura europea, con especial énfasis en el sur de Europa. Los estudios reunidos exploran en primer lugar hitos relevantes de la teorización de la precariedad económica y social en un amplio arco histórico. Un segundo grupo de enfoques seleccionan experiencias contemporáneas de la marginalidad y la exclusión asociadas a esta fuente del daño social, aportando algunas de ellas diagnósticos actuales sobre la interacción entre el marco social y estatal en la eliminación de la pobreza.

Ofrece datos, perspectivas y conocimientos de las situaciones de pobreza en la ciudad de Zaragoza. Se divide en dos partes: la primera analiza el fenómeno de la pobreza ligado a las desigualdades económicas y el nivel de ingreso de la población; además de las desigualdades económicas, se estudian aquellas situaciones o factores que pueden llegar a ser desencadenantes de procesos de vulnerabilidad o exclusión social. La segunda parte nos acerca a las personas atendidas desde Cáritas Diocesana de Zaragoza.

As cities sprawl across Latin America, absorbing more and more of its people, crime and violence have become inescapable. From the paramilitary invasion of Medell¡n in Colombia, the booming wealth of crack dealers in Managua, Nicaragua and police corruption in Mexico City, to the glimmers of hope in Lima, this book provides a dynamic analysis of urban insecurity. Based on new empirical evidence, interviews with local people and historical contextualization, the authors attempts to shed light on the fault-lines which have appeared in Latin American society. Neoliberal economic policy, it is argued, has intensified the gulf between elites, insulated in gated estates monitored by private security firms, and the poor, who are increasingly mistrustful of state-sponsored attempts to impose order on their slums. Rather than the current trend towards government withdrawal, the situation can only be improved by co-operation between communities and police to build new networks of trust. In the end, violence and insecurity are inseparable from social justice and democracy.

Breaking with the exoticizing cast of public discourse and conventional research, Urban Outcasts takes the reader inside the black ghetto of Chicago and the deindustrializing banlieue of Paris to discover that urban marginality is not everywhere the same. Drawing on a wealth of original field, survey and historical data, Loïc Wacquant shows that the involution of America's urban core after the 1960s is due not to the emergence of an 'underclass', but to the joint withdrawal of market and state fostered by public policies of racial separation and urban abandonment. In European cities, by contrast, the spread of districts of 'exclusion' does not herald the formation of ghettos. It stems from the decomposition of working-class territories under the press of mass unemployment, the casualization of work and the ethnic mixing of populations hitherto segregated, spawning urban formations akin to 'anti-ghettos'. Comparing the US 'Black Belt' with the French 'Red Belt' demonstrates that state structures and policies play a decisive role in the articulation of class, race and place on both sides of the Atlantic. It also reveals the crystallization of a new regime of marginality fuelled by the fragmentation of wage labour, the retrenchment of the social state and the concentration of dispossessed categories in stigmatized areas bereft of a collective idiom of identity and claims-making. These defamed districts are not just the residual 'sinkholes' of a bygone economic era, but also the incubators of the precarious proletariat emerging under neoliberal capitalism. Urban Outcasts sheds new light on the explosive mix of mounting misery, stupendous affluence and festering street violence resurging in the big cities of the First World. By specifying the different causal paths and experiential forms assumed by relegation in the American and the French metropolis, this book offers indispensable tools for rethinking urban marginality and for reinvigorating the public debate over social inequality and citizenship at century's dawn.

Hemos construido la pedagogía al margen de las personas para las que se dirige. Las políticas educativas se centran ahora en grandes cifras, extraídas de enormes herramientas estadísticas omnipresentes a lo largo y ancho del planeta, que comparan realidades radicalmente diferentes y desiguales sin ningún pudor. Como respuesta a esta realidad y de forma casi residual, se han ido creando en las últimas décadas estudios que buscan «dar voz» a quienes no la tienen.Sin embargo, todas las personas tienen voz, aunque algunas no han sido oídas mínimamente. Por tanto, el primer paso para estudiar sus realidades es reconocer sus voces y el valor de lo que dicen. En el fracaso escolar, por ejemplo, algo tendrán que decir quienes lo sufren?

Maybe the Global Village metaphor has never been more accurate than it is today, where societies join forces in the fight against the COVID 19 pandemic, in a global coordinated effort, possibly never tested before in the known history of Humankind. Although we are sure that in the past some other shared demands have united the different peoples of the world, this has never been so strongly necessary, mainly in what the global scientific community is concerned. This is a fight for the survival of a society. However, we should not lose sight of what we are fighting for. We fight together for people. Not just for the abstract value of Human life, but for life in society as a whole, including its moral and ethical aspects. The topics of this book are based on this claim, on what makes it possible. We do not build our lives in a vacuum, or in distant Invisible Cities, but through a higher value, which represents physical life in society: the City, built by the discipline of Urbanism. This book is a spin-off of the International Research Seminar on Urbanism_SIIU2020. Inspired by the contents of twelve research seminars, a group of researchers from the universities of Barcelona, Lisbon and São Paulo discuss the contemporary agenda of research in Urbanism. Following the conference, a selection of 35 original double-blind peer-reviewed research papers were brought together with different perspectives about such an agenda.
