Introduction Curriculum is often one of the primary concerns in any educational field. What kind of curricula should we suggest to learners? Educators and teachers are concerned about what choices are to make about teaching content and methods. As for the parents, they would like to know what their children are going to learn. Learners are also concerned about what kinds of content they are going to have in class. “Curriculum” seems to be considered greatly as what teachers are going to teach and, in other words, what learners are going to learn. In fact, “curriculum” is also closely related to how well the learners learn. Thus, as an umbrella term, “curriculum” includes a lot of issues, for example, teaching curriculum, learning curriculum, testing curriculum, administrative curriculum and the hidden curriculum.

This book brings into focus the innovative methods of learning in many Indian schools. It sheds light on schools that make the learning process fun for the teacher as well as the taught, in contrast to the whirl of examination-oriented learning in mainstream schools. The researched data on alternative schools in the country offer the reader an array of institutions all over the country, where efforts are being made to move away from traditional and mainstream learning. It includes exclusive articles by leading practitioners in the field, who offer an insight into the ground reality when a certain philosophy is applied to a school, and also experiential accounts of how such alternative practices mould the learner, teacher and impact the parent as well. The book also consists of a directory of alternative schools in India, including many schools that are tucked away in remote corners of the country. Interestingly, the common thread binding these ‘alternative schools’ is concern for the welfare of the child by teachers who see their work as much more than a job.

This volume problematizes different facets of management education in India---pedagogy, curricula, and disciplinary and institutional practices---from the perspective of the Global South. The essays in this volume bring out the institutional challenges of crafting a relevant academic programme that converses with both national specificities and global realities. Coming from diverse academic specializations, the contributors traverse the interface of their respective disciplines with management education. In doing so, they engage with the ongoing global debate on management education. This volume fills a noticeable gap of serious, scholarly reflection on the state of management education. While there have been sporadic reflections and occasional critiques, a critical stocktaking of the institutional and disciplinary aspects of management education has been long wanting. This volume is of interest to scholars and practitioners of management education across the globe, and is likely to generate debate on its contemporary relevance and future trajectory.
