Pour Me Another Poem is the sixth book of poetry composed by RD McManes. Written in a similar style to his last two books We Ain't in Kansas No More and Don't Read Me Like Some Poem this book is a blend of surreal and more traditional verse. Geared to touch the heart and soul of a reader it contains 92 pages of poetry. The title poem is "Pour me another poem" a metaphoric creation which compares poetry to a good stiff shot of whiskey. "Cloudy dreams" and "Prairie Sea" are examples of traditional free verse and "Almost once, I did" can only be classified as surreal. The author fills the book Pour Me Another Poem with metaphor, which opens the door for interesting interpretation by the reader.

Compiled from the workshop assignments of Ottone M. Riccio, a master teacher, Unlocking the Poem is a teaching tool, a stimulus to individual creative expression, and a compendium of outstanding contemporary poetry written from these very assignments--all in all, a book that deserves a place on every poet's shelf, according to the esteemed poet X.J. Kennedy. Unlike many how to write poetry texts, Unlocking the Poem teaches by doing. Its assignments offer writers, new and experienced, the chance to try new things, to practice their craft--and to produce their own original, polished poems in the process. Unlocking the Poem offers 450 proven assignments--more than any other work available--based on poetic form, subject matter, the use of specific words or lines, time for writing, and so forth. The collection contains assignments to elicit autobiographical experience, moods, and the realms of fact and fantasy. These assignments provide stimuli to get the creative process underway, with subjects ranging from the everyday to the surreal, from people to the natural world, from the works of man to history to investigating language. Unlocking the Poem is organized so that related material comes together, readily findable. Turn to a given section villanelles, for example, or surreal experience or browse until something strikes your interest. Assignments are adaptable to beginners and to advanced writers; there's plenty in here for every poet. Unlocking the Poem belongs in the library of every writing student who wants to be a poet, and every poet who wants to write more and better poems.

THE THICH NHAT HANH POETRY COLLECTION: Over 50 inspiring poems from the world-renowned Zen monk, peace activist, and author of The Miracle of Mindfulness. “ . . . the antidote to our modern pain and sorrows. His books help me be more human, more me than I was before.” —Ocean Vuong, author of On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous Though he is best known for his groundbreaking and accessible works on applying mindfulness to everyday life, Thich Nhat Hanh is also a distinguished poet and Nobel Peace Prize nominee. This stunning poetry collection explores these lesser-known facets of Nhat Hanh’s life, revealing not only his path to becoming a Zen meditation teacher but his skill as a poet, his achievements as a peace activist, and his experiences as a young refugee. Through more than 50 poems spanning several decades, Nhat Hanh reveals the stories of his past—from his childhood in war-torn Vietnam to the beginnings of his own spiritual journey—and shares his ideas on how we can come together to create a more peaceful, compassionate world. Uplifting, insightful, and profound, Call Me By My True Names is at once an exquisite work of poetry and a portrait of one of the world’s greatest Zen masters and peacemakers.

Standing at that magical place where sand meets sea, you likely have imagined putting a message in a bottle, consigning it to the waves, hoping it might some day reach another shore, and then not only be read but, incredibly across space and time, make a difference in other lives now connected to your own. It has happened to me, and I must sing of it. In the autumn of 1966 I let the waves carry off a poempassed around to students, family and friends, no need for even my name on it. Its message was simple: Keep heart, you are not alone; love, stronger than strong walls, will come, helping your heart in hiding grow wings, feeble perhaps at first, but wings! Word astoundingly began to come back in 1969, and has continued since, that Please Hear What Im Not Saying was indeed reaching other shores, across space and time was indeed making a difference in other lives. What follows attests to the power of words from the heart to touch other hearts, sometimes even to change other lives. Read on. You, too, will sing of it.
