The half-mile of rocky shore extending from Cabrillo Beach to the Point Fermin lighthouse in San Pedro, California, was set aside as the Point Fermin Marine Life Refuge by the Satte of California in 1969 to preserve its diverse marine life. This guide is designed to help museum docents and the public learn about the common seashore plants and animals as they explore the rocks and tidepools of the Marine Life Refuge. The objectives of the guide are to provide basic identification and facts about the animals and plants, expand awareness of the dynamic interdependence of ocean life and all life, and foster an appreciation and concern for the care of these treasures of the natural world.
